ngl I think you underestimate how many of us kids found the secret speedway just by going over and "oh five stepping stones.. I'll jump on all of them for no reason cos I'm 8, I make my own rules in games 😎"

19:57 "why don't you glide there and find out" sounds like the dragon way of telling you to fuck off.

My Dad used to do long haul trucking when I was a lot younger. He had a TV and PS1 set up in the cab for us kids to play. I have many fond memories of this game.

I liked how in the beginning the old dragon said "we have 12000 treasure, or is it 14000?" Hinting at the what is 100% but what's actually available after that

One thing the reignited trilogy fumbled on was not including the Gems flying from Spyro to his wallet when passing through a portal.

LOL Spyro has taught me to look around every nook and cranny and to scan every area before moving on.

Stewart Copeland was fucking COOKING with that soundtrack goddamn.

Fun fact: If you were to talk to Lucas (the dragon that tells you about Sunny Flight), THEN jump on the stones, they actually light up and makes sounds. You're not supposed to figure it out early, but it's still there for those who want to accesss it early.

spyro 1 is getting all the love on youtube lately, i'm all for it!

Spyro 1 is the most cohesive Spyro experience, especially on Reignited. It does more with less.

Out of all 3 games, Spyro 1 is definitely the coziest. There’s something about Stewart Copeland’s crunchy, synth-heavy OST, all of the dragons voiced by Mr Krabs, and the no-nonsense gameplay that brings me back more than 2 or 3.

Also, hot take, but I kinda miss Alazraqui’s Spyro voice. Spyro sounded better in 2 and 3, but there was a young innocence with his voice in 1.

The fact that every time you walk into a level you can 100% it is the reason I come back and play Spyro one and not the others now.

As a kid the gems always reminded me of Gushers

Bro seriously thinks Town Square is "just okay" and not the funkiest catchiest jam in the game. That shit lives rent free in my head 27 years later.

i always figured ice cavern being in the Desert Hub was a reference to how real deserts are not only super hot in the day, but absolutely FREEZING at night, hence the starry sky also being visible. maybe that and also just to play with expectations and offer a bit of diversity, having a cold level in the otherwise hot area/a break from all the brown and red palettes? i dunno. maybe if you read into it far enough you could imagine the dragons taking shelter in the caves at night to get away from the cold.

Its just a personal headcanon but Spyro 1 always felt like me to bw spyros first "coming of age" trial young dragons go through.

The adult dragons never seem super worried about him going off to fight gnasty on his own and give him lots of tips as he progresses. Not to mention the help of fairy's, sparks, etc. He gets loads of help everywhere. So it never really feels like much of a threat and that kinda reflects in the gameplay too. You sorta learn with spyro at your own pace and it never feels daunting minus maybe a handful of levels.

Plus it also makes sense of the repeat dragons at the end that "refreeze" after youve already freed them. They gotta tell spyro what to do towards the end and kinda have to scramble ahead of him and give him a reason to talk with them without saying why lmao.

Idk, again probably not canon but i do like that theory a lot personally

Spyro 1 is my favorite. If we ever get a Spyro 4, I want it to go back to how Spyro 1 did it.

The stones screamed step on me

I like how each of the Spyro hubworlds teach you a lesson within the games levels through narrative and ultimately readies you for Gnasty Gnorc.

Artisans Levels > By being artistic and expressive teach you the basics and encourages you to experiment and see what you're capable of.

Peacemakers > By being battle ready and strategic teaches you the basics of a good offense and when to charge or flame.

Magic Crafters> Expanding their magical abilities by secluding themselves in the mountains teaches you how to glide and fly more efficiently

Beast Crafters > A more primal and feral setting teaches you to be more aggressive on all fronts and also teaching you to be on guard from everything trying to kill you.

Dream Weavers> A more surreal and chaotic setting creates enemies that are unassuming but unpredictable. They won't play nice so they'll use shortcuts and secrets causing you to follow suit. By using powrups and  teaching you to platform efficiently.

Gnasty Gnorcs world puts all these skills to the test, especially the fight with Gnasty Gnorc himself.
It's simple organic game design that rewards it's players. It's very nice.
