Tonight, I yap to all of you about my totally awesome deltarune theory... analysis... video... essay? A deltarune analysis video essay! And about the most interesting character in my opinion, Kris! Someone who has been in the middle of a major debate between fans of the game because of their intentions, motives, morality or if they are even a person or just a vessel for the player to insert themselves onto and I thought I had a decent take regarding the matter. Kris is actually super cool. If an eldritch entity was controlling my every action I would not have the courage to
-rip my own soul out
-work as hard as they do to keep their secrets
-keep note of how the eldritch being’s line of sight works to hide shit
-kill a god

I would probably just be sad and watch the entity control me and just let them know my every secret even if it made me uncomfortable.

"It's what they call you" is such a chilling statement from a game that has mr funny TV man and a puppet on strings that traumatizes Kris with themes of... freedom... yeah this game is kinda dark ngl.

while kris is terrified of you, they clearly show they think of their time with susie as a way to escape. when you seal the last fountain in ch4, the text says susies smile encouraged kris and made them feel safe and was glowing, and then it says that "in imitation" the soul glows, this shows that kris cares infinitely more about susie than us and that our attempts to resonate with either of them is just an imitation, it will never be as emotional for kris than susie. same thing with the diner scene where they deliberately dont show you the window drawings because this is a thing that you should not be able to experience with them, they dont want your presence in their most important moments with their friends

This is why the piano segment in chapter 4 is, I feel a major emotional climax for Kris. Because for once in their current life...someone wants to hear them. They don't want the cool, approachable person that the player seems to be. Susie requests Kris to play, because she knows that they are good at it. And so Kris sits down and obliges, because it's the one time someone in their circumstances has basically said "Kris, I want to see you do something." That's why Kris resists if you try to tell Susie that they won't play piano again. Piano to Kris is something that the player cannot overwrite, you cannot take it from them. That is an expression of who they are

The reason Frisk might not be turning against us and ripping their soul out, is because we might be Frisk's first, original soul, unlike Kris' situation where we clearly don't belong to eachother.
