We traveled to Asakusa today to try her shop. It’s the best onigiri we’ve had so far. The salmon and roe onigiri was sooo good.

6:25 “wanting to eat his wife’s cooking one more time” I was eating and I had to stop because I started crying. I’ve been cooking for myself for so long, but I used to be a chef, I’m alone now if I had someone to say that to me that would be the most amazing precious thing anyone could’ve ever said. Because we cook with love.

When making onigiri , the palms are always sanitized with salt, so it's actually very hygienic. The same goes for sushi—it's constantly disinfected by the vinegar in the rice, so even though it's made by hand, it's very clean.

I understand her father, but from the opposite side of the equation. For many years I came home to my beloved's wonderful dinners after work. But now after the last bout of cancer a couple years ago... I have to cook for myself. I still try to recreate the flavors. Even though I'm a very credible cook it is not the same. But when my in-laws come to visit, which is often, I try to reminisce through food. It always brings a happiness and warm conversation. Two things we all need... food and love. If you can do them both at the same time, you have done something beautiful.

I can’t figure out why I am so drawn to this owner. Then I realized it’s because she smiles a lot, and her smile makes her whole face glow. There’s real joy and pride.
