Indra Annihilates the Demons


In this episode, we continue our journey through the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam with Canto 8, Chapter 11, as the great battle between the demigods and the demons continues following the churning of the Ocean of Milk and the distribution of the nectar of immortality. King Bali Mahārāja leads the asuras into battle against Indra and the devas, and fierce combat breaks out across the battlefield. Bali employs powerful mystical illusions that fill the sky with terrifying sights, including blazing fires, mountains, deadly creatures, and other supernatural manifestations that leave the demigods struggling to defend themselves.

As the battle rages on, Lord Vishnu appears, and His presence immediately dispels the illusions created by the demons. With the battlefield restored, the demigods renew their attack, and Indra confronts Bali once again. Their duel reaches its climax when Indra strikes Bali with his thunderbolt weapon, causing the mighty king to fall. Elsewhere on the battlefield, the demigods engage the remaining asura commanders in a series of fierce encounters, gradually turning the tide of the conflict. This chapter vividly portrays one of the most dramatic battles in the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, setting the stage for the events that follow in the story of Bali Mahārāja.
