I listen to a podcast a lot thats hosted by a £50m+ a year multi business owner. He has a new business on each episode to discuss their business. He often says to some businesses that "you don't have a business, you have a profitable job" which is exactly what he'd say reselling is. Although, nothing wrong with having a profitable job!

In order to make 30k a year in replenishable products how much would you need to invest on the front end on average from your experience before you sell your first product? Also, I wouldn’t let people call me peg, but that’s just me.

Let's be real here, I have not watched the whole video but you're describing Jim Rohn to a T at 1:00. Someone that you have gave positive remarks to in the past. Jim was a MLM snakeoil salesman and didn't have a clue in most of what he was talking about. He seems to get a pass because of his 'aw shucks' personality. I was all into him when I first found him, now I can't get past his lack of real business knowledge.

I have an example of what you're talking about. I'm a reseller. My daughter is pregnant and lives 2 hours away. She has twin daughters who are in school. She going to need my if she has a cesarean. She told me that if she has a surgery she won't be able to drive for 2-4 weeks. She'll need my help taking the girls to school. That means I won't be home to sell and ship my items. I will need to  put a halt to all my 550 items. I won't be able to make money during that time. Even if my son who lives nearby tried to help me, it would be very difficult. He doesn't know where everything is, how to pack them, and he can't print out the shipping labels. I agree with you mason. I have a few replenishables. I need to acquire more, but in the meantime I need to keep selling to have money to pay my rent. Thanks for sharing.

Selling a bunch of mop heads is not scaling. Now that they are all gone how do you scale. You can't nor was he able to acquire customer loyalty. It's impossible to build a business this way. You have to build loyalty and trust by consistently offering value to the consumer. Most of these resellers have loyal subscribers not customers who follow their channel and eBay. That's where the misunderstanding is coming from.

Thousands of sales at a dollar a pop (we're assuming he means profit) for a 10 year time period. For math's sake, let's say there are 10,000 sales over a 10 year period. That's 1000 sales per year. At a dollar a pop that's $1000 per year or $83.33 per month. That's supposed to be impressive?
When you look at the one offs vs replenishables, on the one offs you are subject to the market availability around you. That's your thrift stores, rummage sales, public auctions. Even as a side hustle, replenishables can be had no matter where you live. All you need is an internet connection and some place to operate.

You make a good point on if you run a real business based on getting a tax id or registering it. I''ll give a good if not great example.  For about a year I( I think I may have mentioned this in previous posts) I ran a wholesale real estate s-corp "business" with two partners.  It went well and was a real business or a year we all worked it but also had an employees put up signs/ call city hall etc. At the end of the year I was left trying to do it myself and guess what?,  the last year in business I stopped as well.  My business was still registered but it was not a business at it was a registered scorp that had $5,000 in sales in year 2. Food for thought for your viewership.

There are different kinds of business models, not just one. If it generates income, it is a business. You have no argument.

He should be referring people to you Mason, for this great idea of selling replenishables. Sounds like he learned a little from you, but is not putting it to good use. He didn't listen very well. Like you say, buy a few items at first to see if they sell before you buy a thousand of them. Try before you buy. Thanks for sharing.
