Watching this makes me realize 😢 how much we take for granted today. Seeing the 'shoe-less' children and the chimney sweeps reminds me that our modern comforts were bought with the incredible struggle of those who came before us. It's a humbling reminder to be grateful 😢

Texas. I am so grateful to the UK for hosting my ggps for two years. They learned to speak the language and earned enough money with their sewing business to buy a cart when they finally made it to Chicago. I'm very grateful to the generations that rebuilt our country, and I'm grateful that we had a strong partnership with the UK. Together, our people created an industrial age that made the entire world a better place for everyone. 🇺🇸 ❤ 🇬🇧

I love these. Being working class though there’s a certain amount of bitterness in these beautiful images for me.
I think of queen Victoria enjoying her coke and laudanum in the palace and even there it seems is an injustice. I’m extremely grateful to the photographer anyway.

The homeless mother in the doorway with her little baby, I just wonder how young she was. Life was so harsh back then and then stack homelessness on top of it, she was probably early to mid 30s.
