Fun fact: Dolly wrote this song the same night she wrote I will always love you. Must have been a hell of a night lol

R.I.P Dolly Parton 😔

Dolly has said the story is about a red haired bank teller that flirted with her husband but the name Jolene comes from a little girl at a meet and greet and she loved the name and told the girl she would use the name in a song.
That intro is iconic most people even if they don't necessarily know the sing seem to know that music intro
The amazing thing about Dolly us she puts her thoughts and feelings across in her lyrics so well that her songs can't help but resonate with you even if it's something you haven't personally experienced.

Dolly is a national treasure! Not only is she an amazing songwriter, she is also an astute business woman who opened Dollywood and employed her entire hometown. She is also a very generous woman. She has donated millions to charity, quietly and gracefully.

She once said "it takes A lot of money to look this cheap". Love me some Dolly.

It’s been so fun to share this journey with y’all. If you’re in Atlanta, it’s not too far for you to go to Dollywood. She grew up in the Smokey Mountains, and later built a big theme park there to give her family and friends jobs. She is like the main employer in her town. She also has a book club for kids in Tennessee, she sends them a book each month for free. She is an awesome lady.

Dolly Parton is an absolute beast of a songwriter.

Dolly is a great storyteller with her music.

I’m a metalhead. But you can’t go against Dolly!

She wrote "I Will Always Love You" and " Jolene" on the same day. Awesome day in music history.

Her country is like Appalachian mountain country.

Beautiful green eyed redhead who worked in a bank where she and her husband banked and she was a total knockout!!  I've heard her tell the story behind the song!!

Her voice sounds tearful, like she's trying not to cry.  That little tremolo at the top of the phrase puts across that vulnerability - she's begging.

After her passing yesterday, im listening to this song, and NOT ONCE was Dolly disrespectful to Jolene as she sung about her. Described her a beautiful and simply asked for kindness so she could keep her husband.
I think when she did that live and called the audience member a hussy it was all fun and games to involve the people in the crowd

This made me think about Loretta Lynn singing "You Ain't Woman Enough to Take My Man."

His laugh is the best part of this!

Hope "Coat Of Many Colors' will be the next one from Dolly...

It is so good to see young people liking the good old country music. 👍🙂

As a person of 'colour' from Africa, many people have questioned my love for Country 😂😂 This is why ♥️
And the fact that they tell you a whole story in a song...

Always been one of my favorite songs since I was young, and I’m 67 now.
