Yeah it's kinda weird how nowadays everyone seems to love the dark, gritty tone of GTA IV's storyline, but at the time the game released, that was the biggest complaint you heard (story is too dark and real, not nearly as much satirical humor as in previous GTA games, etc.)... well, unless you played the original PC version, then you had a lot more problems to worry about than just the plot lol. I thought those people were nuts, I always loved the darker tone and IV is by far my favorite GTA game, but it seems it took almost 20 years before people really learned to appreciate and love it. How times have changed.

Loved the video bro, keep up the good work!

graphics mods of this game still today looks amazing. also the euphoria system is hands down the best physics and ragdoll combos, can enjoy the game for hours just messing around with everything. I remember chasing high speed, hitting a other car top of the hill, flying through the window tumbling down the hill over a cliff on top of a building ragdolling all the way to down to some random street. was the most intense death i ever had physics wise in a game

He’s my favorite GTA protagonist. And 4 is my favorite game. The atmosphere and the aesthetic and the story was the best. Such a special experience

In 2008 I couldnt run the game right on PC, like many others my 2GB GPU was struggleing and the ugly shadows contributed to the gritty NY feeling.
I liked it but only years later got to experience it fully with essential mods in 4K.
But regardless if ugly or pretty the games underlying mechanics, the story, the music and Euphoria engine physics shine till this day :)

If you like running over pedestrians you should try Carmageddon TDR2000 which was released a year before GTA3, it featured full ragdoll effects, vertex deformation on cars with procedural destruction, dismemberment to the point that pedestrians will try hop away from you on one leg. You can pause the game or record a replay and watch eyeballs flying across the screen when you hit someone. There is no maximum speed on cars so if you use an afterburner you can fly at warp speed into a wall and literally split your car in half. Carmageddon and Mafia (2002) are the only games I know where you can continue driving after a wheel has completely detached from your car. In Mafia the cops will shoot your wheels off with a shotgun from the passenger seat of their cop car in the middle of a cop chase
