Is the apocalyptic mood in our culture today just in our imagination, or are we witnessing the rise of a dangerous new political reality? Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor co-authored ‘End Times Fascism: And the Fight for the Living World' to help understand that question. They join Chris Hayes to discuss how the far-right has shifted from climate denialism to weaponizing ecological and economic crises, creating an ideology built on survivalism, tech-oligarchy and authoritarian control. Plus, they talk about what can be done to resist.

“Why do you want to win a race off a cliff?” Perfect analogy.

Let’s call it what it is. It’s an oligarchic international fascist dictatorship, that we must fight back against to survive.

Thank you Chris, for bringing us these two intelligent critical thinking ladies.

I feel that the violence of the past is now still being enacted on people. Seeing the genocide of our Native Americans slashing USAID, slashing medical, genocide around the world, bombing schools-apartments-hospitals, ICE camps in the US is the same violence but in a different way. Losing social security and health insurance is violence.

People can't underestimate the willingness of these bullies to burn it all down, including all of us, if they aren't getting their way.

Astra is right. Taking action does make you feel better.

As a Minnesotan, I prefer being collaborative instead of predatory--we can change and tranform to live in harmony. Great conversation from you three! Thanks!

Habitat destruction is a cause of extinction. If nothing else, our descendants will have a much harder time thriving.

So what I’m hearing is there is a portion of people in our society that are mentally ill (delusional thinking, paranoia, manic, psychotic) and untreated. Mix that with cruelty and corruption- this is what those of us with a brain are facing.

We wouldn't have the shocks right now if we had a competent government.

Very glad to hear this panel examine and cut through the tech bro doomsday propaganda. This discussion brings clarity to billionaires' rhetoric. Thanks.

JD isn’t talking theology — he’s talking Thielology. We allowed a cult to become the richest 1% in the world, with a following of poor acolytes who do their dirty work.

Thank you Chris for this fabulous podcast. You often invite interesting humane people that deserve to be known.

Thank you. Former media lecturer in New Zealand. All of this discussion is something i've been wrestling with since the early 2000's.

Psychopathy is the reason we are where we are today. At over 8 billion people, even if only 1-2% are psychopaths, there are way to many psychopaths in the world and they have overwhelmingly infected governments all over the world. People need to get a grip and vote to save humanity. After that, laws need to be drafted to protect the government from incompetent people.

Love Chris' interviews. And having read Naomi Klein's books for many years it is such a treat to hear her voice. I look forward to getting hold of this new book; both of these women have such insight and intelligence.

It's chilling to hear of a start up country becoming a real thing.

ice is still brutally active but there is just no coverage of it now. And they are now hitting rural America , small cities and even tiny towns.

Steven Miller saying the strong overpower the weak. Is rich coming from a tiny, physically weak, thumb with ears. Who most definitely, was given swirly's, and was stuffed in a locker as a youth.
I think he needs another swirly, to remind him he is the weakest link.
