A Conversation with Seth and Margareta Riggs | In the Studio Episode 33

In The Studio With MJ

Seth Riggs is a rock star behind the rock stars. He worked as a vocal coach for everyone from Ray Charles to Barbra Streisand to Stevie Wonder, but of course, his decades of work and friendship with Michael Jackson are what he is best known for. Seth and his lovely wife, Margareta, continue to work together as vocal coaches to this day. They were kind enough to have a conversation with me, reflecting on Seth’s 95 years of life, music, and amazing experiences. I appreciate the time they took to share so many memories. Enjoy!

the story Seth said about meeting MJ would have had to be in 1982 before Thriller was completed. Post July timeframe.

As a singer myself (amateur), I admire Seth Riggs, and I admire that Michael worked so much on/with his voice. Every singer, especially great professional singers, need to "exercise" their voice chords and singing techniques. It's so misunderstood by the general public 😅

I got singing lessons with Margaretha when she was in Sweden. Seth came down the stairs to talk to me. Such nice people! I wish I had asked him about his time with Michael but in Sweden we are afraid of seeming too "pushy" so we talked about other things. 😊 I really like him.

Seth is my indirect teacher, too! I train with his book and sing in German and Russian!

He trains his vocal chords the same way an elite athlete would do their bodies 👏

Wow he looks amazing. He still looks the same from the picture he took with Ray Charles. I've heard Michael's training sessions on YouTube with Seth and it just blew me away. Amazing ❤
