Keith Hovis stresses that worship is about God and that congregational singing must be understood, drawing on 1 Corinthians 12–14, Ephesians 5:19, and Colossians 3 to show singing should teach and admonish. After earlier lessons on “Blessed Assurance,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “Abide in Me,” he introduces “Because He Lives,” written in 1971 by Bill and Gloria Gaither amid concerns about raising a child in a troubled society, noting verse two was written first. He walks through each verse: God sent Jesus to love, heal, forgive, die for pardon, and rise from an empty grave; believers can face uncertain days because He lives; and death will give way to victory and the lights of glory. He emphasizes calm assurance, overcoming fear, trusting God with the future, and that life is worth living because Christ lives.
