Definitely the right division. Even though he didn’t win first, he was competitive against some pretty skilled opponents under a brand new rule set. I’d say that’s a great performance.

watching a Judo pro just keep throwing BJJ athletes is like the most anti-BJJ BJJ thing ever and I'm here for it.

This is becoming a mini judo channel and I’m all for it.

Blue belt in gi and intermediate in no gi was absolutely correct for Soren.  Good Job!

Please make more Judo videos like this!

You just love to see how advanced Judo practicioners can just throw you with minimal effort just by detecting and exploiting a minute weakness in your standing balance

That was 6 days of preparation imagine a full camp

10:04 A Judo black belt is NOT a BJJ white belt. It was the right division for him.

No leg attacks in Judo.. ANYMORE!! - pre 90's you were allowed to attack the legs in competition, but that got changed. Watching any pre 2000's Judo is a different beast, it was so much more aggressive. I miss those days..

Soren reversing a back take with a harai makkikomi was one of the coolest things I've seen in a competition. Thanks for this video!

He wasn't kidding about the ruleset making the sport.

I did Judo back in the 1980s, but took a break for university. Back then, Judo was about 50/50 standing vs. ground and I focused on the ground (and submissions) a lot. Around 2000 there was a major change to the Judo rules fueled to make the sport more 'exciting' and less like wrestling for the Olympics. I went back into Judo in my 30s mainly for fitness and... it was a totally different sport. More like 80/20 standing and it wasn't for the better. Oddly, even as an out-of-shape old guy, I could slaughter folks on the ground or even standing, if I ignored the new rules. Within 15 years, most younger kids I fought had no defense against leg grabs, grips with both hands on the same side, groundwork which didn't immediately let you stand, etc. The sad thing is it didn't make the sport any better. As a martial art, it removed a massive weapon/defense against strikers, it made you pretty weak on the ground vs. even wrestlers, etc.

In Brazil was a blind judoka called Tenório. He was 4 times paraolimpcs games champion. Once time he competed in a national jiiujitsu normal and senior competition, with all no blind athlets. He won all the fights and he got de gold.

His judo was fun to watch. With a little more BJJ training, I would love to see how the results change.

Thank you for bringing us Judo content!
There's not enough Judo channels out there.

In IBJJF rules, he would have to compete as a blue belt because he has a black belt in Judo.

In the UK judo black belts have to compete as blue belts minimum

Makes you realize how useful judo is in tournaments

Glad to see you finally posted the video😄. My friend Trey (the first gi match) just got his blue belt in January with me, but he has a lot of wrestling experience. Yall did a great job showing the strength of Judo 💪🏾

if there's anything I'm learning from this video, it's that I need to seriously do some judo to step up my bjj holy shit
