Its so sad that Andor didn‘t get the public attention it really deserved. People seem to be more interested in „awwwwww, baby yoda!!!!“ then this mindblowing masterpiece.

That short shot of Perrin looking concerned during Mon's crashout is my favorite moment in all of Andor and I don't know if I can explain why. I loved every bit of depth they gave to what we all assumed was an ignorant hedonist, by the last time we saw him I really felt that he saw the horror just as much as anyone and that was his way of coping.

Another little detail of the Empire making you forget history: there's no way Dedra is young enough to have grown up in an Imperial kinderblock. She was a child during the Republic, but it seems it's not proper to speak as if the Empire had not always existed. Same thing with how they say Kenari was destroyed in an Imperial mining accident, despite that happening before the Clone War even started.

When you have top tier television like Andor, nothing is done by accident. This show is an example of that rare alignment of a creative team that pulls off a perfect show. Directing, writing, cinematography, editing, lighting, costuming, acting, music, etc... It's so difficult for all of those elements to come together when making a television series. Thanks for your insight and analysis and you've definitely hit on important themes that tell a story beyond the story of the script.

I love the contrast in stry telling between the wedding and the trials of the rebels getting their movement off the ground.

It so reminiscent as well of what raves are essentially: a place where your all your joy, pain, sorrows, euphoria and anxiety melts into absolute abandonement. Alternating that and the horror and trauma of imperial tyranny is a masterpiece.

All I know is that I want to eat in a communal feast at Mina Rau and party at a Chandrillan wedding. That's how immersive the show is.

I think the stolen Chandrilan statues also tie into the theme of repeating cycles of the history. It's the second time Luthen references Rakatan Empire. THE first galactic Empire which was overthrown in a galaxy wide uprising. I feel like Luthen is purposefully nurturing the memory of ancient revolt and is using it to more subtly push anti-imperial sentiment even in his antique dealer persona. Perhaps he is even taking inspiration from it and uses it to kickstart a new revolution?

another detail i only caught the last time i rewatched this was the scene where the guy is cutting leida's hair off. mon is standing in the background but the knife is basically cutting her throat from the cameras point of view

I loved the wedding arc. The outfits were incredible and the sets were beautiful. The esoteric traditions are fascinating to me. The joyous celebration is hiding dark truths.

The wedding arc was my absolute favorite part! The tension, the drama, and its position in the wider narrative of the rebellion makes it so intense. Not to mention the moral dilemma Mon Mothma faces.

The theme of "homecoming" in regards to the Rebellion ("You're coming home to yourself" and "Welcome to the rebellion") put me in mind of "Óró, sé do bheatha 'bhaile" possibly the best known Irish rebel song. The chorus is translated "O-ro! [a cheer] You're welcome home/ Now that summer's coming!"  Originating as an old folk song sung at the bringing home of a bride, the first version was written as an Irish Jacobite song, welcoming Bonnie Prince Charlie to fight for Catholic Ireland. It was re-written by Irish rebel and poet Padraig Pearse, using the story of Irish warrior-queen Grace O'Maille to get Irish fighters to sign up for the Republican cause against the British Empire (sounds familiar!)
Although the second line ("summer's coming") might suggest that the coming of a time of plenty, historically summer was the season for waging war, and summer is certainly on its way for the Rebellion in season two!

I'm not sure if all this was intentional, but with Ferrix basically being space Belfast and Cassian's mum Maarva being played by a Irish actor using her natural accent, it does seem possible.

not to be a fangirl about something everyone will think is stupid, but Mon's outfits throughout Andor are insanely good, and I love her wedding dress (the outfit Mon wears to her daughter's wedding) most of all. it gets showed off so beautifully during the dancing scenes at the end of the wedding and somehow makes the whole thing just feel that much more tragic.
