8:59 surprise magnus cameo

Emil big respect. mogged by comp kids and staying humble and fun the entire time.

Ryan having the TIME OF HIS LIFE humiliating Emil. Hilarious. Also, these kids. My god. Well done all of you!

A bit of context for those who don't know:
Children are REALLY built for climbing!
- Their strength to bodyweight ratio is super advantageous
- Their hands are tiny for getting a much better grip on the tiny holds, or with some larger holds they can fit their hands into more secure spots
- Their feet are tiny, so they can easier stand on tiny foot holds, and there's less weight on those foot holds so there's less chance of slipping
- An interesting hardly talked about one is that children build lactic acid FAR slower, and so they can hang out on the wall for far longer before their muscles start burning

You see the same thing with children who are doing INCREDIBLE things in skateboarding, like that one kid doing 900s.
So while they are absolutely incredible, on top of that, children have a TONNE of advantages with this stuff.

Also if they start young enough and climb frequently enough, their brains soak up and naturally understand climbing on a different level, like those 5 year old chess players absolutely demolishing adults with ease, while drinking their juice box.

As a comp kid, I do think the setters rigged this competition, but it’s fun to watch anyway.

I love the deadpan humor Emil has. And it must've been so much for the kids too, to climb with a top climber who's genuinely trying hard.

And I love the attitude of not accepting 'too tall' as an excuse. Of course it is a disadvantage for that specific position, but it is useless to think about what other people's bodies can do differently. Bouldering is all about figuring out a way for your body to get up there, and improving yourself until you get there. You can't train to become shorter, so instead of focusing on that, focus on ways to be stronger, more flexible, climb smarter, anything you actually can work on that might get you the move.

i loved it SO MUCH when he said "I don't like that excuse. It's really just me not figuring it out." That feeling. It is what keeps me climbing.

i love how even tho the boulders were clearly set for the smaller box of the smaller kids Emil was still such a good sport and never said it as an excuse. Love the mentality its something to learn from for sure.

Great humility shown by Emil to encourage younger generation climbers. Hats off for putting pride down and did the comp anyway despite knowing there is a clear reverse height advantage for the kids.

Before the comp I saw these kids warming up and floating up V8s and V9s. These kids are something else

OMG the "Magnus" shuffling off camera in the background
I just spit out my drink

One of the kids are going to end up being magnus in disguise

Much respect for putting yourself out there. And props to the setters :) That was fun to watch.

Cant wait to see Climbing Stuff cover this
