Mayhem fans are like swifties but its black metal

I think the problem with the film was the fact that they tried their best to make Euronymous look like a very good person trying to get ahead (even making up things like that he had a partner and was trying to leave the scene), while at the same time trying to depict Varg as an evil psychopathic sexual predator making up that he forced girls to get naked in front of him. I think that kind of things made the film lose its objectivity. It probably would have been better if they had simply portrayed Euronymous as evil and weird as he really was, and portrayed Varg as evil because of the murder and his political/racial views without having to make up the fact that he sexually abused women.

mayhem fans are the twilight fanbase of black metal

When I first watched the film, I honestly didn't think it was bad until I accidentally met a new friend from Norway whose mother knew Euronymous personally before he joined the band and received letters from him while he was already in the band. That's when I was first struck by how much the film distorted Euronymous's character and even twisted his personality regarding events. My friend's mother considered Euronymous a very kind and cheerful person, always willing to help his friends with anything until he joined the band. The first letters she received from Euronymous during his time in the band were really nice. He invited her warmly and talked about some taco restaurants in the area. In the next few letters, he talked about how he didn't get along with the band members, how he argued a lot with Pelle and also complained about Hellhammer, how he didn't want to work and disappeared very often, so Pelle and Euro often thought about kicking him out of the band. The letters were very nice, although he often complained. After Pelle's death, the letters my friend's mother received were equally hilarious. He compared Pelle's brain after being shot to Rimini spaghetti (wtf xD). Anyway, my friend's mother says Euro was a very good friend until Pelle died and Varg became part of the band. She said Euro had changed beyond recognition, though she maintains he would have loved the fame they'd gained over the years.

This movie is great in the way that it de-mythologized the Black Metal Inner Circle. Fanboys want to think they were a bunch of rebellious philosopher-warriors fighting against mainstream society, while in reality, they were a bunch of cringey teenagers who took the edgy "satanic" image of metal music too seriously and ended up hurting a bunch of innocent people and themselves.

The best scene was where the reporter was taking to Varg and he said "So you believe in paganism, and
you're a Satanist, and you're...You're also a N*zi. That's a pretty broad belief system." Essentially mocking the edgy-for-edgys-sake system of supposed "ideology" that underlined the whole movement.

“Mayhem is the K-pop of black metal” 😂

Acting was so weird, I thought it was dubbed in English at first

I used to think this movie was THE SHIT when i saw it the first time with my gf, but it becomes more and more "so bad it's good" for every time we rewatch it.

If you look at the film as a pure feature film, it was okay, but unfortunately the film demystified this whole Mayhem story a bit and unfortunately also brought a lot of poser kids into the scene who just adore Rory Culkin and listen to Freezing Moon on a continuous loop

(Great video btw;)

The movie begins with text that reads "Based on truth and lies." Instead of saying it was based on a true story as most  biopics do, meaning the filmakers themselves admit that it's heavily fictionalized, even beyond the typical fictionalization of most biopics, due to how they didn't know how honest/dishonest and reliable/Unreliable the accounts of the band members and those around them are. It's a film that is ment to be separated from the actual truth and true story because it's told through the perspective of someone they admit though that opening text is an unreliable narrator.

I dont think this film is bad at all to be honest. If anything it's in the style of a "black comedy" cause as a lot of people point out the acting is "off". The acting is that way because they're portraying teenage/young adult metalheads (who let's be honest with ourselves) which typically are awkward individuals. I think the reason why black metal fans hate this movie is cause they see themselves in it in a way. I'll admit I was awkward to a degree getting into metal .

add to the fact we view the guys from Mayhem , Burzum and Emperor as these elite and super cool musicians when in reality they were a bit goobberish like us.

Definitely not a perfect or even a "good" film but also not this sacrilegious abomination people are claiming it to be .

I think that movie really shows how other people perceive black metal fans and musicians. Like people in black metal consider themselves cool and edgy, but in reality they are kinda seem to be posers.

My biggest gripe with this film is the lack of actual black metal. I wanted the story of Mayhem and it's music, since that's what the whole point of these events were for!! I can suspend disbelief and take the storytelling of the film for what it is,  a story.  But where's the black metal????

Unpopular opinion: I kinda liked "Lords of Chaos." No, it's not historically accurate, but if you view it as a comedic/satirical biopic, it's entertaining. I like to think of it has the black metal version of "24 Hour Party People," the comedic biopic about Tony Wilson, who managed Joy Division and the Happy Mondays.

The movie "Amadeus" portrays Mozart as a giggling potty-mouthed maniac who got murdered by another composer. These elements are entirely inaccurate, but it's still a great film.

Ive been into black metal for almost 14 years and i genuinely enjoyed the movie, the book its based off is notoriously filled with misinformation so i dont know what people were expecting. If you go into it looking to be entertained and not informed, youll have a good time. Cool soundtrack too.

There was a joke which was going around when this film was in production which was because they had casted somebody who was in the Twilight films. It was gonna get 14-year-old girls into black metal. 😂

i was eating chicken while watching good video 10/10

the funniest part is that this thing was made by a guy that was part of the metal community

The movie 🍿 title should have been
"Norwegian Hills 902666"
