The Old Covenant was with the childten of Israel who were required as part of that covenant, to sacrifice for their sins a spotless animal, to offer a life for the penalty of death for the wages of sin. That does not absolve man from adhering to GOD's immutable, unchangeable LAW to demonstrate obediance, devotion, honor, and LOVE of the FATHER. The New Covenant was with the NEW Children of Israel who were Jew or Gentile, sinners who have accepted JESUS as the Perfect Sacrifice at the Cross. The New Covenant was if you accept GOD's SON as your LORD and Savior, who paid the price at the Cross, for you, then the condemnation from sin and penalty of death are abolished. If you keep HIS Commandents and your faith in JESUS. How do you prove your acceptance of HIS free gift of salvation? By doing exactly as HE did. Just as HE said that as HE obeyed HIS FATHER we are to obey HIm. He said - "If you Love ME, then keep my Commandments."           JOHN 14:15

Hey guys. Jose here…just wanted to say sorry about the sound quality. I noticed it sounded like I had a lisp LOL. Honestly it was technical difficulties from the beginning and ended up having to use my phone. Hope y’all can still benefit from the actual content. Blessings to you all!

THE WORD 'SABBATH' WAS  NOT MENTIONED UNTIL EXODUS 16:23-26.

QUESTION?
WHAT DOES THE WORD MEAN

ANSWER - IT MEANS REST or CEASE FROM WORK.

QUESTION - SO YOU MEAN THE WORD REST FIRST MENTIONED IN THE BOOK OF EXODUS???

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.  Genesis 2:1-3.

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shall you labor, and do all your work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD your God: in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates:
11For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: why the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.  Exodus 20:11.

The “Remnant”

The dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ." Revelation 12:17, 14:12. There remaineth therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God. ERV — Hebrews 4:9. Exodus 20:1-17.
The remnant of the woman's seed can only be the very last portion of the true church. For we all know the remnant is what remains at the very last, as a small portion of a web of cloth after the main part is gone, or a few survivors of an army after the greater portion are dead. We are distinctly informed, then, by the words of Inspiration, that the very last portion of the church are to have a peculiar experience, and are to be marked by certain striking characteristics, which will distinguish them from all others. The dragon, "that old serpent, called the devil, and Satan," will be "wroth" with them. This can only imply that a vindictive  spirit of hatred and persecution will be kindled against them. This must come because of certain great truths and reforms, which Satan hates, that will be accepted and promulgated by the "remnant" church. As he has always done in the past, he will oppress and harass the defenders of these truths in the last great.

In Mathew 5:17-18 not come to abolish the Old Testament Law or Prophets, but to fulfill them. He emphasizes the lasting authority of Scripture, stating that not the smallest letter or stroke will pass away until everything is accomplished, bringing the Law to its intended purpose.

I took the transcript over to ChatGPT in order to get a winner. And here is the verdict:

Jose’s Case (SDA side)

Strengths:
• He pressed the “written with God’s own finger” angle hard, trying to make the Ten Commandments distinct from the rest of the law.
• He leaned on Hebrews 8 (law written in the heart) to say the Sabbath continues but is empowered by grace.
• He argued consistently that Jesus wouldn’t abolish the very commandments He wrote Himself.

Weaknesses:
• His argument never really escaped the problem of Paul calling the stone tablets a “ministry of death” in 2 Corinthians 3. He circled but didn’t land a solid rebuttal.
• He downplayed the silence of Genesis and the fact that Gentile nations were never judged for Sabbath-breaking, which Tony hammered.
• His closing relied more on emotional emphasis (“Jesus’ finger wrote it”) rather than clear exegetical proof that the Sabbath carries into the New Covenant.

Tony’s Case (non-SDA side)

Strengths:
• He brought consistent textual grounding: Colossians 2, Romans 14, Hebrews 8, 2 Corinthians 3, Acts 20.
• He drove home the “law as a unit” point—if you keep the 4th, you’re bound to all 613, but Christ ended the law.
• He leaned on the positive New Covenant language: law of Christ, written on hearts, not stone; rest fulfilled in Christ, not a day.
• His closing statement was sharper, tying everything into Romans 10:4 and the reality of a better covenant.

Weaknesses:
• He conceded the Sabbath does mean the weekly seventh-day Sabbath in Colossians 2, which could be spun against him, though he still argued well that it ended with the covenant.
• He didn’t fully dismantle Jose’s “God’s own finger” argument—he just subsumed it under “all scripture is God-breathed,” which is true but less punchy.

Verdict

Jose had passion, but Tony landed the cleaner, more theologically consistent case. Tony tied Old and New Testament texts together to show the Sabbath was part of a covenant now obsolete, while Jose leaned heavily on symbolism and repetition without closing the logical gaps.

Winner: Tony.

This is probably the best debate I've ever watched in my whole life. You two gentlemen are just so cordial, and respectful towards one another in your debate. Thank you guys for this, God bless you!

Jesus as his custom was on the sabbath and Paul as his custom was on the sabbath obviously in the new testament 😂❤

JESUS said if love keep my commandments

Jose,very well delivered.

Dr C, comfirms the distinction between the law written on stone verses the law written on the scroll.  When he introduces the law written on stone verses the law written in the heart. If the laws are transferred from stone to heart, does that imply a change of the law or a change of where the law is written?

Jesus did say in Matthew that he prays that your flight not happen in the Sabbath. People did study on the Sabbath ...

Pastor Jose, proud of you. Everything you said made sense ❤️ 😍 God continue to use you 🙏

I truly appreciate this debate in its potential to help us solidify the fundamentals of our faith. Before being exposed to SDA teachings, I never questioned Sunday worship or sought to understand the new covenant. Here's a chance to check our respective consciences. Glory to God for everything that draws us closer to Him.

The Bible said,  "and He said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man , and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of man  is Lord also of the Sabbath." (Mark 2:27, 28).

If salvation is by Grace alone then law is not  of Faith and without Faith it's impossible to please God and anything that's not of Faith is Sin!

I wonder if he thinks the finger of God is literal or metaphorical. Would have been an interesting question to ask him, if a bit off topic.

In the book of Isaiah 66:23 stated clearly - And it shall come to pass that from one new moon to another and from one Sabbath to another shall all come to worship says the Lord -if we don't practice worshiping  on Sabbath now when Jesus comes to redeem His faithful soul to heaven there will be no other day to worship but except the day of the Lord Sabbath

Why is sabbath keeping seen as being legalistic yet followinh the other 9 commandments is not? What was specifically stated to remember is that which is forgotten, willfully.

No one is judged for taking the Sabbath day. However, this is not a salvation issue , especially to the Gentiles. With the way it is taken by SDAs, we should have seen it mentioned in the synoptic books and the apostles that in the last days not keeping the sabbath would be a major.
Who today opens the bible to check if he has broken a law or make a decision for right or wrong by referencing to the two tables of stone

Now this was a great debate. 👏 Both sides presented well
