As someone who suffers with this, but hasn't gotten to the point where it's absolutely disgusting you cannot get help. So I just got stubborn with myself and said enter a room grab the first thing on the left. Make your way around the room. Be cut throat if it's an object that wasn't yours, but was a parents, for example, or maybe even a great grandparent that you never even met, but you feel some kind of guilt getting rid of this thing. Take a picture of it. A book of memories takes up far less space than the actual objects. I got my house done by my self in four years. Mind you I always kept places like my kitchen in my bathroom clean. But putting clothes away or having too many clothes was a major issue and I cut myself off from going to thrift stores unless I actually needed something. And if they didn't have that thing, I couldn't get anything else and if they did have that thing, and I limited myself to only candles for things that would not last. It's improved my life immensely.

Well done to Jeff for starting a Plymouth Hoarding support group.

The presenter is just lovely, it must be helpful to have someone that understands and it isn't just their job ❤

With 1,000 player piano rolls, 30 oscilloscopes and a food museum i'm surprised our man managed to make progress; i thought he was too far gone. Well done mate.

What a brave man to talk about it and such lovely way to respectfully help him through it. Really inspiring. 🍀

I’m a border line hoarder it started 20 years ago when I got ill and couldn’t go out. But I am tackling it with a vengeance this year, wish me luck 😊

I recently took a whole year to declutter and while it was exhausting, all of it was washed and packed and labelled for donation. 12 huge shopping carts piled to the ceiling and it was hard but I did it. The fact that the shopping carts stayed with me in a back room meant I could stil retrieve anything if I had pangs, but at the end of 12 months, only a few items were retrieved off the carts re: items I later decided I wanted to keep. This in addition to donating 2500 books. My rule was every day minimum one item had to go on the carts. That helped a lot.

Originally aired in 2013, hope Jeff is still keeping calm and carrying on

Only seen Jasmin before on Place in the Sun, she seems lovely, empathetic and patient. Poor Jeff, its so sad how childhood trauma can cause such issues after so long. The longer you live and meet people the more this becomes more apparent. I hope he manages to get over the hoarding.

The most beautiful line I will always remember, "Indiana, let it go."

As a child, his mother throwing out treasured toys because paint was chipped I think has something to do with it. The lack of control over these toys that gave him pleasure suddenly not being there. Jeff with his scientific mind began to look at it rationally once they intervened.

Jeff didn't like the idea "other people touching his stuff with germ infested hands" was interesting. In his mind all the stuff buried under the dust is still "clean" because they are untouched by other people. These stuff was a safety barrier for him to protect him from other poeple. But you could see a light coming out of his eyes. Good on you Jeff!

It's like living in one of those weighted security blankets.

I envision a charity dedicated exclusively to supporting elderly individuals struggling with hoarding. The goal would be to help them thoughtfully curate their belongings—perhaps keeping 100 cherished items—while ensuring the rest of their goods in good condition are donated to those in need through a free community shop. By providing professional cleaning and furnishing them with essential new pieces, we could offer these seniors a dignified, fresh start in a safe and peaceful home.

Had seen the episode with Jasmins mum being a serious hoarder, she knows what it’s like in her life what a hoarder is. She is so patient and understanding. What a kind soul she is.

Jeff is a legend.

Jeff seems like such a sweet man. Thank you for helping him and others like him who struggle with hoarding.

This is heart warming the compassion and effort the female host of this program has for these two people with hoarding problems.  Thank you so much for reaching so tenderly yet truthfully into their lives, getting alongside them the way you have.  Thank you, thank you again, the elderly gentleman and the  lady and their families are very fortunate to have had your friendship and intervention.  💜

I just bought a house that was owned by a hoarder guy that passed away. Family had to come from abroad to clean it out and was so overwhelming for them. Took months for them to clear it and I'm still find bits of lawnmowers and engines, buried underneath the grass. Neighbour used to complain to him saying his hoarding was bringing rats and generally still complains about the poor bloke, funny thing is the neighbour is a hoarder himself with just bits of useless crap everywhere over his acre section, just jammed packed with anything from road cones to 10's of broken weed whackers to random bits of wood and old farm fencing that's totally useless to reuse. Lucky he has a wife that keeps the house clean and clear because I'm sure that'd be up to its eyeballs in rubbish too otherwise..but what a hypocrite

Jeff is a delightful man with a great sense of humour.  I wish him well.
