I think his ways are the best to teach for beginners.
Defensive plays and waiting for opponents to blunder are more easy to play with compared to the more master and GM level Sacrifice plays that really opens a lot more paths from a standard game
I have seen some videos where is claimed that Capablanca didn’t calculate but it is obvious that with his brilliant last move with the Queen that he had to.
I started following Capablanca's technique and IMMEDIATELY got better, a lot of loose principles about Chess I kind of understood I finally figured out how to put into practice.
A particularly nice and instructive game. There was not a lot of deep calculation, but it's still impossible for us mortals to find such moves, especially around the knight to and fro business, and then that final combination with the queens and rooks.
So straightforward and sensible, everything made sense and I could predict his moves…until the end haha.
It’s like he carried around this intense tactical potential energy but only deployed it at the most opportune time, keeping the weapon holstered most of the game with breezy positional moves.
I guess the question becomes, after adopting his strategical framework of simple chess, how do we train for those bursts of brilliancy, to seize the moment tactically with precise calculation?
Love Capablanca makes me want to get back to playing for winning end games. I changed up my game to win tactical middle games because I was naturally stronger in the end game and weaker in the middle.... No longer true time to get back to my first love... Great video I remember this game but taking time to digest the tactical back rank mate sequence is critical to improving our game as well as all the principals that got us there.
I found the move by process of elimination. I did my check capture attacks looking at checks first I saw it didn't work because the white queen could block and black back rankl is open too. No good captures so the only thing left to look at are attacks and see if they work. And it did work.
