In this video I react to Girl Gone London's "9 British Things Americans Have No Word For". As an American, it's always interesting seeing the everyday UK things that I never noticed were missing in the US. From objects to common sayings to social norms, these are the little cultural differences that really highlight how different our countries can be even when we speak the same language. Let’s explore what the US doesn't have a name for and why it matters.

Whenever an American merely suggests 'french fries' in a chip butty.. be prepared for us Brits to riot.

Fun fact the Muppet show was filmed in the UK and was very popular it was also longer than the US version as each episode had to be cut for US adverts, So British viewers got an extra song that the US viewers never saw.

No,no, no brother. British bread, proper salted butter, thick cut chips, tomato ketchup or HP sauce. THAT is a chip butty.

I ate a ploughman's lunch once. He wasn't happy about it

A chip butty does not have French fries in it. In the UK French fries are those limp, skinny things you get at McDonalds. A chip butty has thick cut chunky chips in it, slathered in salt / vinegar / ketchup / brown sauce / (cheeky) salad cream / etc or whatever takes your fancy.

I'm PRETTY sure it is illegal to put tomato in a Cornish pasty lol Seriously. It is a geographical protected product with a specific ingredients list to be legally classed as a Cornish pasty. Tomatoes are not one of them. You cannot call it a cornish pasty if it has extra ingredients in that aren't in the specific ingredients list

The 'Cowboys' term is partly from the fact of old westerns - when at the end 'the cowboys would ride off into the sunset' ie these are workers that will take your money are maybe doing a shoddy job - or an incomplete job 'and ride off into the sunset with your money'

I was just so impressed by the thought of our biscuits being engineered to stop them falling apart. Well done biscuits. A proud moment.🍪🫖🇬🇧

Cheeky can be playful but it can also be a negative. If someone is rude you can call them cheeky.

A cowboy plumber often works for a mickey mouse outfit.

Being the kid of immigrant parents, I first heard the heard the word ‘elevenses’ in my Paddington books and used to feel all cosy inside when Mr Gruber would announce it was elevenses and he and Paddington would share a cup of cocoa together in his antique shop ☺️.
