Joshua Broome - "Rocco Reed," Inside The Adult Film Industry | #196

Shawn Ryan Show

Joshua Broome is a former adult film star turned pastor, speaker, and advocate for redemption. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, he entered the porn industry in his early 20s, earning accolades like “Porn Star of the Year” and appearing in over 1,000 films before walking away in 2013. After hitting rock bottom—struggling with identity, shame, and a life unraveling—he found faith, left the industry, and rebuilt from scratch. Now married with four children, Broome shares his raw journey of transformation, warning about the destructive ripple effects of porn on marriages, mental health, and society.

For what it's worth......I noticed when he talked about his experiences in the film business, he covered his mouth with his hands, a clear body language signal of shame and remorse. But when he talked about his faith and scripture, he dropped his hands away from his mouth and smiled with expressions of joy and love right from his heart. This guy came out of pure hell into the light.

When I was in college, Josh let me and my buddy work out at his cross-fit gym for free in North Carolina. After a workout one night, he told us his story on how he became a believer. He said his girlfriend (now wife) got him to come to church, and after coming clean about his past she said “What kind of Christian would I be if I judged you for your past.” Incredibly impactful to me, and forever grateful for his story!

It's crazy how universal the correlation is between not having a good relationship with your father and living a screwed-up life.

I had a pastor who would say, “Sin takes you further than you meant to go and keeps you longer than you wanted to stay,”
God bless this man and his message.

Shawn I really thank you for having him on. As someone who has battled porn addiction off and on for almost 40 years, his testimony has made a impact on me more then anyone. It has restored my faith and my walk with Christ. This may not have happened had you not has him on. He was the perfect man for me to listen to. Man I wish I could thank both you in person. This means everything to me. You have no idea as I was in a really dark place a week ago

"What stays in the dark grows" That is a powerful statement

2:36:10 I can't believe what he said. And I had to rewind it multiple times. When I was holding my first son and he was 3 months old, the Holy Spirit came into my heart and what I heard God tell me is exactly as Joshua described. I didn't believe in God, but thought I'd give it a shot, and I heard God say, "Look at your son. Think of how much you love him. That's how much I love you, but even more." Praise God, and thank you Joshua for such a powerful and vulnerable testimony of redemption and God's grace and love. Amen!

perfect example of, "be kind. you never know what battles people are fighting"

Shawn..This is a major interview not only from a physiological and psychological standpoint but from a spiritual perspective from a man delivered from Jesus Christ and speaking truth🙏🏽

I really can't imagine the strength that it takes for Joshua to speak out but God bless him for it.

From P. Star to pastor, what a powerful testimony that God has provided to those who feel lost and unworthy to be forgiven by God. God truly loves us, He can really pull us out of the worse spots. Praise Jesus!!!

I have a 4 year old son and this is just more reason to be an epic father for him and tell him how proud of him I really am, all boys need their fathers to be there for them.

12 days Porn free. That may not seem like much but after 40 years it's the longest I've ever gone. God has released me. Amen! Gotta keep this up. That's why I'm coming to this video.

Shawn, I’ve been loving every episode. You’ve been helping me restore faith in Christ. Because of these uploads as of late I’ve finally gotten back to reaching out to Him and getting a better understanding. Please don’t stop. We need these uploads and the world is so overwhelming now, the culture is killing our mental health and spirit..

What a monster episode brother. It mirrors my life so much. Grew up in the 70s and fitness , sports , racing motorcycles and chasing lots and lots of girls. I didn't do illegal things or any drugs or alcohol but but I had a life of sexual sin the size of a mountain. I recommited my life to Jesus over ten years ago. I now teach Sunday School and I'm in my final year of Deconship at my Church. I Baptized one of my good friends last year in a creek while we were on a mountain bike ride. This episode is extremely powerful. God bless you guys

The power of a testimony man!!!! I'm cleaning the kitchen frustrated at my husband, and this guy starts talking about forgiveness. Shawn ryan, you are my favorite podcaster. Thank you.

Such a powerful testimony. Many years ago a friend told me about being a father that “you have the opportunity to be the father you always wanted”, and that stuck with me as my wife and I raised our 3 amazing children. Such a powerful testimony of God’s amazing grace and power to reconcile.
