Testing out the LUMIX S1II in low light and seeing how it compares to the Sony FX3 at Sony's best ISO 12,800. Is the Sony FX3 still the king of low light or is the LUMIX S1II the better low light hybrid mirrorless camera?

Not only more texture, but also much better tonality!

No surprise, here. 6K beats 4K. DR Boost works well. Throw in the better image stabilization and the S1 II is my pick.

YO These side by sides are WILD!!!! Great content brother! The Lumix colors are so consistent in low light too!

As someone who owns an FX3 among other systems - I’m impressed. I hope to see more head to head tests like this. Less hyperbole, more practical and objective comparisons.

I just finished filming a commercial on the S1II, we had an indoor low light scene. I pushed it all the way up to 12800, shooting in 50fps 5.1K, slightly underexposed, and images still look great and surprisingly sharp! Great test Armando, cool to see the comparison and that Dynamic Range Boost gives the image even more pop.

Im happy to see more people are making videos about Lumix, there so underrated, everybody is only talking about Sony's all the time.

I find this test very objective, and I‘m so happy Lumix is pushing the boundaries. Good competition is obviously a big win for everybody.

One grain of salt though, I do thing Lumix‘ transfer to Rec.709 has a significantly different target curve than Sony. So (and I‘m complaining at an ultra high level here) for a test like this, a colour checker would be amazing to match the tone curves, giving us an even more objective result.

I don‘t think a matching curve would yield different results. Far from it. the 6k vs the 4k is like night and day. But I think the difference would be a little less dramatic.

This is actually pretty cool! The S1ii offers a lot at a competitive price which is the reason why it’s being put up against the FX3, if Sony reduces the price, or an FX3ii comes out , we’ll probably see a comparison like this again to see how it fairs , good work hermano!

Great video… probably the most convincing one I’ve seen on this camera.

Most other reviews felt like hype, calling it the “low-light king” or an “FX3 replacement” without solid reasoning. Yours felt honest and well-balanced.

I’m not rushing to switch systems, but I’d gladly use this if gifted. For now, I’ll stick with what I have and watch how this camera holds up over the next 6–12 months.

Thanks for the solid comparison… really appreciated this one.

Skin tones are more pleasing out of the LUMIX. Overall, Panasonic’s video features are a step above the rest. I’m glad they’re getting some well deserved recognition.

So... I have the FX3, and I'm considering the S1ii.

--and I don't define my identity around a product, so I can appreciate both of these... as I like cameras not corporations.

Thanks for this comparison!

Thanks for the video Armando.

lets not forget that A7SIII/FX3 was released about 4 years ago, and at this point, this matters more when it is a high end project, nowadays we are so used to A7SIII and the lenses available for it, just my take.

Very interesting. The FX3 sensor showing its age now

LUMIX kills it this time

I have an a7iv and the image is sharper than an FX3 but I strongly feel like I prefer the image that comes out of the FX3. It just somehow looks more beautiful. There's something to be said about the difference between an image that is technically superior and one that's more aesthetically pleasing. This doesn't mean I think the Lumix is worse or a bad camera. It's actually insane how they've managed to fit so much quality in such a small, well priced package.

Where are my Sony Fanboys ? Insane job from lumix!

I noticed the same low light performance in the S5ii for those not needing all the other bells and whistles.

This was great to see, thank you very much! and with that said, i am happy i have the Lumix S1 II on pre-order. 🙂

I would say it's a great direct comparison to the FX3 (those ISO tests looked great). The reason I wouldn't switch is because eco system. The native lens selection with Panasonic isn't as great (yeah, I know it doesn't really make a huge difference if you're shooting manual focus cine lenses). Also, as an eco-system, you have the option to shoot camera's with internal ND's as A-Cam's along with the FX3. Definitely a wild time to be alive- it's more pressure on the creative and less on the gear.

I've been Panasonic for the last 10 years. I've only ventured over to Black magic for a second. And even did Canon for stills.
The s5iix does it all finally..
I'm super excited for this.
Only thing Sony can do at this point is offer 6K and open gate but they probably won't so looks like Panasonic for the win.
