Well, ChatGPT told me my ideas about Dyson spheres was neat and that I'm a special boy getting so close to the edge of known physics.

Man, this vacuum cleaner company has some pretty big ambitions.

If you can build a Dyson Sphere, you have no need of a Dyson Sphere

things I learned in this video:

1. physicists can be pretty funny
2. tech billionaires can be pretty dumb
3. if you disassemble jupiter, it'll fuck up the solar system

The fact that you found a clip of Dyson himself stating that he wasn't serious is excellent work.

Step 1: Squish Mercury into a flat disc
Step 2: Obtain four giant elephants and an even gianter tortoise

I can't believe Dyson wrote the Onion article of physics papers

I attended a guest lecture by Prof. Dyson in which he talked about spheres and his astrochicken idea. He came across as a serious scientist who used these far-out concepts as a prompt to ask real questions about what kind of future we want to invent. He was aware of the joke. We were aware of the joke. It was still a valuable experience.

my calculator has a little solar cell and thats just my contribution to our dyson sphere

Dyson just wants to build a shell for our civilization in the pursuit of the ultimate goal: becoming a crab.

Love how every techbro solution to every problem involves an implicit step 0 of "stop doing anything practical to solve the problem right this second, because the yet-to-be-invented step 1 is just around the corner", it's almost like they don't want you to solve the problem and to buy their snake oil instead.

Honestly, opening a portal to Hell on Mars and then sending its energy to Earth in form of EM waves sounds more reasonable than a Dyson sphere

Populations with exponential growth would rather disassemble Jupiter than go to therapy smh

Tech bros talk about dyson spheres like they’re telling a caveman not to bother with fire and just build a fusion reactor instead.

We have a saying in Chinese, that the poor farmer imagines that the emperor must use a golden carrying pole to carry water. The joke is of course, that the emperor doesn't need to carry anything.
This is so fitting to the idea of a Dyson sphere, we're just here thinking oh aliens must be so stupid advanced they have a solar farm as big as the sun itself!
