Something I hate about the way the community treats the Lamenters is that they think they're the loser chapter who do nothing but cry and get defeated all the time. You try living on max difficulty without a way to turn it off, then have random nonsense no one could possibly predict happen to you constantly, then try being low on supplies all the time and generally have worse and less wargear compared to other chapters. Then, try being completely self sufficient as a fleet-based chapter seeing as no one has the guts to even attempt to fight alongside you in the conditions you live in. On top of all of that, try having a main priority of yours being to protect and preserve human life. It'd be so much easier to just bombard a bunch of Orks with their human hostages and chalk it up to acceptable losses like the Marines Malevolent do, but the Lamenters live by their compassion and will do absolutely everything they can to avoid the death of any human; making things so much more difficult. Each Lamenter that has survived up until now is a damn near one-man-army type Space Marine. The toughest conditions breed the toughest warriors, yet no one in the community perceives strength when they look upon the Banner of Tears. To me, Lamenters fully encapsulate the idea of the indomitable human spirit. They've had every opportunity to turn to chaos, yet they still continue to serve the Emperor and his people. We are the bulwark against the terror, and the defenders of humanity; because the Emperor did not studder.
It's worth mentioning that when the Lamenters were being boarded by the Minotaurs chapter to punish them for their supposed betrayal during the Badab War, the Lamenters fought back and held their ground for an hour, all while actively avoiding killing any Minotaurs marines if they could. The Minotaurs are known to be the personal attack dogs of Terra's corrupt mobility and thus have the best gear possible, while the Lamenters were exhausted and depleted from the war. They're lowkey goated and are genuinely one of the truest good guys in the setting.
There's also a Lamenters dreadnought who's serving in the Deathwatch who genuinely believes that he's the last surviving Lamenter in the entire galaxy because of how thoroughly screwed their chapter is.
Additional info, since the Lamenters refused to take the Laurels of Victory because of their guilt of letting a world full of citizens be lost to the green skins, the ones responsible of said giving the Laurels of Victory, the Ultramarines, really took offense to their refusal. Acknowledging and I'm just paraphrasing here, the Ultramarines thought of them as worthless snobs since they did not accept said medal. Even when the Lamenters are trying to do good, the world will always find a way to sh*t on them be it intentionally or unintentionally.
0:25 Just a slight correction on the Blood Angels anf their successors. The Red Thirst stems from a genetic flaw of their gene-seed, not from the Sanguinius' death. The Black Rage resulted from the pyschic shock felt from Sanguinius' death and has cursed their bloodline ever since.
Lamanters are my favourite. Because they never give up. Badass quotes and still loyal. I hope that they will be able to fix or use their bad luck against the enemy of man.
No World Eaters is an absolute crime, they deserve the #1 spot no question.
Brief summary: decades of daddy issues and performing the same decimation the Iron Warriors do but also after 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘧𝘶𝘭 missions because you took more than a day to conquer a planet, so you and your brothers decide to mutilate your minds just like your gene fathers. Only to realize your dad still hates you, you now experience painful agony at all times unless you're slaughtering others in a blind rage, and the brief moments of clarity you experience are thoughts of "oh f*ck oh God why did I do this to myself?!"
