I experienced so much frustration because I thought my sewing machine was broken. I kept getting skipped stitches, loose stitches underneath the fabric, you name it.  What I had to learn was that 99% of problems were from human error. Rethread your thread and bobbin.  Change your needle.  Make sure your take up lever is always at the highest position before you start sewing. Hold both your top and bobbin thread firm for the first stitch.  If your bobbin seems jammed, take out the bobbin case and check to see if there are loose threads; there usually is.  Don’t pull your fabric as you sew, just guide it gently. Always stop sewing at 8 pm and go to bed  😊

I just started sewing in the last two years. I watched two extremely detailed videos (over an hour each) on using my Brother sewing machine and neither mentioned having the presser foot up to thread the machine. I actually packed my machine up and took it to a repair shop thinking it was broken! Luckily, they threaded it before accepting it for repair! They told me about lifting the presser foot!

If the problem is on the bottom, it’s the upper thread. And vice versa

I’ve been sewing for 25 years. I stopped for a while just listening to this video has helped me more than anything. I learned in the last 25 years and this is coming from the daughter and granddaughter of a home economics teacher.

My frustration is the endless AI chatter that gets in the way of real information in these videos.

Tension has always been my major disaster, I keep the maintenance manual nearby when I sew.  The suggestions are great, I learned a few of them the hard way, and needed permission for some of the others, now have some new tips as well.

Tip:
How does the thread unwind?
The thread should generally unwind off the spool pin:
Vertical spool pin: in a counterclockwise (anti-clockwise, or from the back);
Horizontal spool pin: over-the-top-and-toward-the-front direction.

Absolutely THE BEST “advise” video i’ve ran across to date!  Thank you so much!  Ive been sewing 40 + years and i am still learning ❤

1st of all thank you for your information. Your voice and presentation are very easy to listen to however I would recommend reviewing what you have filmed because as a long time sewer ( I do not prefer not sewist)  I can see You often Are showing an unrelated portion of film to what you are actually trying to teach. Please try and coordinate your information with what Is on the screen. Again thank you For your videos.

Great information! I sent this video to my daughter who is starting to sew and, like most kids, doesn’t really listen to me 🙄. 😁

Your audio instructions made so much sense, but the video did not match the audio and often didn’t make sense at all.

Brilliant teacher thank you ❤

Only turn your flywheel toward you, use the proper foot for the job, don't try to sew too fast (it's not a race), don't forget about changing the pressure regulator (above the needle on older machines) for different thicknesses of fabric and use a hump jumper when sewing over thick seams (like jeans). Learn to clean and oil your machine yourself and do it regularly (the bobbin area must be kept clean).  Invest in a good clear oil (like Zoom Spout) and only use a drop.  Most important:  read your machine's manual and keep it handy for reference.  There's a lot of great info in there.

You just made my life so much easier!!!! Bless you chile 😅!!!

Oh my goodness... 50 years sewing and I just learnt that you always thread your machine with the presser foot up. I probably did it that way but ive never had it explained to me. Cool. Thank you.

Universal 80 and ball point.

Now go change your needle…..? I cracked up !!! 😂  Thanks for making me laugh!  Good video!

Not cleaning the area around the bobbin case; can also; cause nesting.

I was so frustrated the other day … I was between screaming and tears …. I’ll retry again

I appreciate the advice/tips but it would also be helpful if the footage corresponded to what you're saying.
