Let's have a black celebration

Dave's stage presence is massive. Even now years later he just dominates the stage. He just emits a spirit that is contagious.

Outside of The Beatles run of brilliant albums in the mid-60's, Depeche Mode had the best run of four exceptional albums in a row of an band in history with "Black Celebration", "Music for the Masses", "Violator", and "Songs of Faith and Devotion".

Alan was the creative force to turn DM to more dark/industrial direction. This started back in Construction Time Again through SOFAD.

He earned my utmost respect to his dedication to a piece of music.

I've been a Depeche Mode fan for over 30 years, and I have to be honest, your review of their discography is one of the best things I've seen about this band on the internet in a long time. It's very substantive, with a sense of humor, and it's never boring for a minute; it's great to watch. Thanks a lot.

I used to annoy my ex-fiance by playing Depeche Mode just can't get enough and singing it all the time

The best decision DM never made was Clarke leaving and enlisting Wilder.

This retrospective is PURE GOLD. I joyfully gobbled up this wonderful piece music journalism like nothing I've seen before. I've been a long time fan of Depeche Mode yet much of what you covered was new to me. I appreciate your excellent articulation of the music and process. Thank you!

I'm usually disappointed by the interpretations of Depeche Mode songs made by Youtubeurs, biographers or on social media. But your interpretation of their song is incredibly accurate. I agree with you almost all the time. Your point of view about their albums & songs is really clever. Thanks !

The "In Chains" Wilder remix is so amazing. I wish they kickstarted a Alan Wilder remix project of all the singles that were released after his departure.

In the Violator section when you were discussing the contributions of each member to the sound on the the album, I was thinking “wonder what he’s going to say about Fletch?”

Your take on his contribution was priceless!

Being a life long Depeche Mode fan I must say thank you for posting this fantastic video, always love to see interpretation and discoveries of their music from other fans. Since you are about my daughter’s age, it brought a smile to my heart that you found so many things that made Depeche Mode so endearing and my favorite band of all time.

Black Celebration remains in my top 10 favorites of all time.I was lucky enough to see them live around that time. Fun thing: someone at the ticket printer messed up big. They had the wrong day. Now, there were 200 tckets for us in Buffalo on the right day, and the buses went the 70 miles to the show. The band called us in, so we werent all far away, and the 200 of us got a full show. The band had obviously been told what happened, as Gahan joked about it. They went all out. Loved it so much.

Fantastic retrospective. Great effort - respect and many thanks. I actually listen to almost everything - from classical to metal - DM almost from day one, right up to today. I was born in '67. In the 80s it was always an 'event' when DM released a new single or album. Wait untill the record store called, pick up the record as quickly as possible and at home - put the shutters down, turn the lights off and then: Let's go !!! A big influence - and kind of support - in my days of youth. Greetings from Germany. 🤗
