It's hilarious hearing Siskel & Ebert complaining about too many sequels & remakes in '78 considering the world we live in now lol

Showering praise onto a movie like Jaws is one thing, being able to realize and appreciate what movies like Re-Animator and Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer were going for is something else.

0:00 Re-Animator
1:00 Dawn of the Dead 1978
2:10 Halloween
3:40 Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
6:14 Cat People
8:19 Scream 2
9:17 Alien
11:15 Jaws
12:45 Misery
14:15 Interview With the Vampire
16:15 Invasion of the Body Snatchers
17:20 The Fly
18:30 Gremlins
20:30 Critters
22:20 Arachnophobia
24:10 Christine

I loved watching them as a kid. I couldn’t wait to see what movies they were going to be reviewing. Man, I miss them.

Man I miss these two guys - they never let me down.

Siskel was so spot-on about how movies had changed and part of the subconscious appeal of Jaws or Gremlins or similar films was how something extraordinary can happen to them, the bored suburbanite.

Did. . . did Siskel actually say that Re-Animator had a "minimal" amount of gross-out scenes?!?

I miss these guys.

I love how Siskal talks about how bloody Alien is, and says it'll be too scary for kids. And Ebert says, what we are thinking "Well it is Rated R". 😂

I miss these guys

Their review of Gremlins is spot-on terms of finding that right blend of horror and comedy set against a Norman Rockwell type setting for Christmas.
Yet the most hilariously morbid and even chilling part of the movie was when Kate retells her story of how she found out “There was no Santa Claus.”

These reviews reveal something I had forgotten about and miss: these guys CARED about movies. I didn’t always agree with them….and sometimes they actually pissed me off. But they had INTEGRITY and appreciated art. Ebert’s rant about the MPAA was really something for the time. These guys were genuinely bold and edgy despite the stuffiness they could occasionally give off.

Though Siskel wasn't around for it, I was shocked that Ebert liked Final Destination. His written review pretty much summed up how everyone felt after watching it; envisioning what other kinds of Rube Golbergian deaths could occur in the sequels.

I forgot how great these guys were with each other.

I used to watch these guys all the time on my local PBS TV station. Even if they panned some movies they didn't like,  I'd go and see those films, and I'd like them!

Their review of Dawn of the Dead was perfect.
Cat people was a fantastic thriller, Kinski was as intriguing as her father.

These reviews all perfectly show Ebert's “It's not what a movie is about, it's how it is about it.” Like Re-Animator--it isn't just blood and gore but blood and gore with style and a satiric comic purpose. Big thanks for posting!

I always got excited when they would both recommend a horror movie. As a horror buff it felt like validation.

I used to love to stay up late to watch these guys review movies. I believe it was Sunday night in my area.

Siskel did not find James Caan convincing as a writer in "Chapter Two," so it's neat to see him here giving Caan (cast once again as a writer) the thumbs up for his work in "Misery."
