✨ How much of Rasputin's legend is true and how much was constructed by those who had an interest in eliminating him?
In this episode of "Pentru voi, cu Mirela Voicu", I have alongside me professor and historian Mihai Manea, who is currently in the process of writing a book about forgery and fraud in history, with whom I talk about Grigori Rasputin, the Siberian peasant who became close to the last imperial family of Russia, whose name has remained linked to scandal, mystery and prophecies.
We talk about the contradictory images that fueled his myth, from charlatan and drunkard to "saint with healing powers", about his childhood in Siberia, the pilgrimage to Athos, the legend of belonging to the Khlist sect and about the three predictions made at a table, which came true. We discuss how he came to be at the court of Tsar Nicholas II, his role in the illness of Alexei, the heir to the throne, and the most plausible explanation for how he managed to stop hemophilia attacks.
We also touch on the moments that turned him into a legendary figure: the orgies and the method by which the ladies of high society gave him money, his influence over the Tsarina during World War I, and the plot in the Moika Palace, where, legend has it, he was poisoned, shot, and thrown into the Neva, although autopsy reports record no trace of poison. We also learn lesser-known details, from the contradictory testimonies of Prince Yusupov to the hypothesis of the involvement of British secret services, supported by the type of bullets.
Towards the end, we discuss the so-called Testament of Rasputin and his prophecies about the end of the imperial family, the mystery of Anastasia and the DNA test that put an end to one of the longest-running legends in history.
Write to me in the comments: Do you think Rasputin was a prophet, a conman or just the victim of a political scheme?
