I’m so glad there’s a channel here like this one Buck dedicated to the late great Jack Benny where we fans of true comedy can get our daily dose of one of the best and greatest comedian who ever lived. Thank you Buckaroo.

Jack Benny was 66 when this episode was made! Eddie "Rochester" Anderson was 55. George Burns was 64. Don Wilson was 60. Mike Wallace was 42. And Tony Curtis was just a kid at 35.

I watch your channel often  because I love Jack Benny. Also I enjoy the old commercials included with the shows

I am 67. I wrote  joke "0" in 1968. Time for me to give the stand-up a shot

Jack would have preferred to continue appearing every other week. But James T. Aubrey, CBS' ruthless president, wanted him to be on every week in the fall of 1960; he didn't want ANY alternate week programs on HIS network. Of course, he couldn't force United States Steel and Armstrong Cork & Rubber to comply because they were too powerful, and Aubrey couldn't afford to lose their advertising revenue. So "THE UNITED STATES STEEL HOUR" and "ARMSTRONG CIRCLE THEATRE" continued on alternate Wednesdays through 1963.

HIIIIIYAAAA, Buck!  I can't get used to tea and insurance.  I miss Jell-O, Grape Nuts, and Lucky Strike!

Great. Never saw this one. Remember the alternate sponsors and state farm theme song.

Around the time of Johnny Green's bandleadership duties on the Benny show, he put out a great series of Brunswick recordings with Fred Astaire.  Green was also a composer and a very talented guy.  His parents were 'musical' and must have made some $$, as Johnny went to Horace Mann and Harvard.

First program for Lipton Tea {still under Lever Brothers' sponsorship} and Jack's new alternate sponsor, State Farm Insurance.

Wagner also appeared in the original Pink Panther, playing the nephew of David Niven’s character.

54:05 — The names of the two presidential candidates are indeed mentioned. There is a gag that Jack's new publicity man has put up a billboard stating that both Nixon and Kennedy are voting for Jack.

Great show but how did you not mention that Tony Curtis co starred in one of the greatest comedy films of all time. "Some Like It Hot". Tony even mentiones the film during the episode. He said Jack taught him how to walk like a woman.

Sure do miss: J-E-L-L-OHH.........

There playing golf and wearing a suit.

I disagree.  The filmed episodes were far superior to these kinescope-quality live shows.  Jack's show kept getting better as the 1960s progressed, and of course his occasional NBC specials were the best!

Had Mike Wallace joined CBS News at this point?
