Did this movie break you too?!

Yes, Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal are a must.

Bastion: MOONCHILD!

Everyone on their first time watching: WTF did he say?

My therapist: "When did you first experience this crippling depression?"
Me: "In the Swamps of Sadness."

Artax dying in the swamp is a childhood core memory for any Xennial and Gen Xer.

"Because people who have no hopes are easy to control"

"I was expecting Helen or something"  That was hilarious Jen.  (Intentionally, or unintentionally) 😂

"They look like big, good, strong hands, don't they? I always thought that's what they were"

RIP Wolfgang Petersen (1941-2022)
RIP Klaus Doldinger (1936-2025)

"They look like good, strong hands..." That is the part that broke me.

An entire movie about grief and how people deal with it in terms kids can understand that still wrecks adults. Perfection.

Bastian is the only kid ever to skip school by hiding in the school and reading!!

People say the Artax scene is devastating, but for me, the rockbiter sitting accepting his fate is the scene that really tugs at the heartstrings. This huge hulking behemoth of a creature has been completely broken by the nothing. He had every notion about himself shattered, He lost all of his friends, He lost all of his hopes & dreams to the nothing. & He is sitting waiting for it to come & take him too. He has resigned himself to his fate. "They look like big strong hands, Don't they?" One of the saddest scenes in any movie ever.

All masterfully delivered by Alan Oppenheimer. The original Skeletor himself. He voiced Rockbiter, the G'mork, & Falkor.

& yes, you absolutely have to watch The Dark Crystal & Labyrinth.

The dad is also struggling with the mothers death. The drink he makes for breakfast is a hangover cure. So he's been drinking at night to forget while telling his son to be brave.

"They look like big strong hands, don't they?"
all these years later and that still gets me

Everybody talks about the horse, but it was the Rockbiter that always got me in the feels.

i saw this many times as a child.  then in my 40s i rewatched a bunch of childhood movies.  most were garbage but this is one that i still love to this day.  this movie is great at any age.

I remember when I was 7 how I cried at seeing the Childlike Empress because I had never seen such a beautiful girl before. Especially when she looked right at me and cried into my heart.

I also met her actress, Tami Stronach, at a comic con in Canada last year. She let me chat with her for 15 minutes while she was on her break.

I continually regret how my life has left me so few options to whip out a well-timed "To the winch, wench!".

I loved this movie as a kid.  Several years ago, I was fortunate to meet Noah Hathaway, who played Atreau.  I wanted to meet him since I was a kid.  He is a tattoo artist.  He was at a convention when I met him.  One of several celebrities I got to meet in person.
