This was one of my all time favorite movies as a kid and it still holds up today. Though there was a lot lost in translation from book to film.

I believe that Moonchild was also the name used in the movie too. I just rationalized it as Bastion's mom must have been a Hippy or something like that. this was when I teenager looking back at the movie id watched quite a few times as a kid.

watching the movie again as an adult the scene that really hit different was the rock bitter scene where he's sitting there defeated and hopeless talking about how his hands look like they're strong but  he couldn't use them to save his friends from the nothing.  that the nothing took them right from his grasp

I have always had family pets and one that comes to mind was that a few years ago now I lost my pitbull boxer mix to what we think was intestinal or stomach cancer.  we didn't really have time to find the exact problem. my family and I did everything we could to try and help her. we took her to the vet multiple times at like 3 in the morning. It wasn't about the money for me. it was about trying to help my dog. she just didn't respond to any of the treatments that we tried and we had to put her down here at the house when she came home from the vet. another vet came out to our house and put her down.

it was one of the rare times that I have felt utterly defeated and I still have feelings that I failed my dog. I can look back at the situation and conclude that these feelings are irrational but it doesn't stop them from coming around every now and then. so when I see Rock biter sitting there. I know exactly how he feels.

it's pretty amazing that a kid's movie from 1984 was able to so accurately communicate a feeling or a state of being that everybody (unfortunately) will experience during our human experience.
