Your interpretation is spot on Sarah. In the Autumn of 1965 John Lennon, his wife Cynthia and young son Julian lived in Weybridge England. The stockbroker belt 20 miles outside of the London. John had purchased the home a year earlier as a tax shelter from the millions of profits he was making with the Beatles. This estate allowed John and his family a respite from the mania that followed John 24/7 while living in London.  He and his fellow Beatles discovered marijuana in the USA a year earlier in 1964, upon their meeting with Bob Dylan. John, in his isolated boredom, smoked copious amounts of pot. A side effect of smoking pot is it gives the smoker the munchies, At the same time John developed a taste for Jaffa Cakes. A British biscuit (topped with dark chocolate, an orange jelly center on a spongy cookie). He devoured them and throughout 1965 John continued to gain a lot of weight. One morning he set out to write a song for inclusion on what would become the bands late 1965 album Rubber Soul. For a couple hours he tried but nothing was materializing...so he went back to bed. Lying in bed, overweight, missing the excitement of life in London, frustrated with his inability to write a song, where his life had taken him and how fame and fortune weren't at all what he envisioned what it would bring him. So here he was lying in bed, depressed and isolated, John thought to himself, He's (I'm) a real Nowhere Man sitting in his (my)nowhere land. With those lyrics, John popped out of bed, and he finished off the song very quickly. RNB

your reaction has me in tears , if everyone listened to the Beatles they might just save the world

Nowhere Man is a Masterpiece like all Beatle songs are.

Imagine being in your teens and hearing this.  The Beatles taught us to open our eyes, see the world for more than the tiny part we I habit.  They promoted peace, understanding,  and unity.  Some of us still remember  the message.

My folks said when they played this when I was little, I would cry.

This song is timeless.

Nowhere Man definitely sounds like someone we can sympathize with.

I read in one of their big books that John wrote this song to himself.

I am always in awe when the younger generation have their First time listening to The Beatles.  We were the same way back then and ongoing, even now.❤

I remember the first time I heard this song. My big sister got the album and played it on our console stereo in the living room. I was 9 or 10 and sitting on the floor (shag carpet) playing with my erector set I got for my birthday. Of course I really liked Rubber Soul. My sister got the see the Beatles in Dallas in '64. I think she was 12. Those were special times.

This is why The Beatles will be on top of my best bands of the 60s list. Lyrics, music composition, recording and engineering perfection. And NO digital gimmickry. I don't know if you've listened to "Within You and Without You," but you should. One of my favorite George Harrison composition. That goes deep.

This one is probably my favorite Beatles song still after so long. Though I was not around when they were active,.upon discovering their music little by little when coming to this one I realized  they were geniuses and there is no one like them

I heard this song for years. Today i was sitting in my car, after work, trying to figure out my life, this song tore me up when i really paid attention to the lyrics. Great song.

I was 14 years old when I first heard this Beautiful song. Beatlemania hit me hard back then in those Glorious Days .

loved your reaction to this wonderful composition by Mr. Lennon  and the Beatles

The companion to this song would be “Help”. Both written about himself.

Beatles songs are gems!

Just a brilliant song - forever.

IMHO - This is Ringo at his very very best.  It doesn't get better than this driving rhythm that transitions into perfect drum rolls seamlessly.

The Beatles have many introspective songs. In fact, The Beatles have lots of songs of every variety. They did every genre—and invented a few. Well over 200 songs in only 7 years together as recording artists—you’ve barely scratched the surface!
