Why does a 30-year-old rusty box cost more than a modern crossover? Today, we decode the legendary Volkswagen T4 – the last stand of true German engineering before marketers and plastic touchscreens took over.
From its revolutionary front-engine design that saved drivers' legs, to the bulletproof 2.5 TDI engines that easily hit a million kilometers. We explore how it dominated the Vanlife movement, why the legendary Syncro and California models cost a fortune today, and how a commercial van humiliated sports cars on the Autobahn. But it's not all perfect. We also talk about the brutal reality of rust, the insane "Vanlife Tax," and why modern successors like the T5, T6, and the new rebadged Ford Transit T7 just can't compete with the original Bulli spirit.

I don't see serious rust yet.
We are based in the Netherlands but we have traveled in this van through South-America, Central America and North-America for several years. Also in Europe of course and in Morocco. It will be hard for us to get rid of this van, some day.
