Our anniversary trip to Mozambique was supposed to be simple… until our flight was CANCELED. 😩✈️
We were already packed, had the time set aside, and weren’t about to spend our anniversary sitting at home. So instead of canceling the whole trip, we got in the car with no real plan and started driving across South Africa. 🇿🇦
And THAT decision turned into one of our favorite adventures yet.
In Part 1 of our spontaneous South Africa road trip, we make our first stop in Bloemfontein, explore Naval Hill, hit the road again, and eventually find ourselves discovering the small-town charm and hidden gems of Graaff-Reinet.
From the incredible Valley of Desolation to locally roasted coffee, conversations with people we met along the way, unexpected recommendations, a rum tasting, good food, and celebrating 23 years of marriage ❤️ — this trip reminded us why sometimes the best travel experiences are the ones you DON’T plan.
And the crazy part?
We were only getting started. 👀
The road trip continues in Part 2 as we make our way toward South Africa’s Garden Route, following some of the recommendations locals gave us along the way.
