My ex-husband left me for another woman and our daughter was three years old and profoundly disabled (non-verbal).  I always allowed him as much or as little access as he wanted for her sake.  I met someone else who ended up raising her.  At her leaving assembly when she was 11 she ran past both of us into her stepdad's arms.  So genuine and from a child unable to be manipulated.  It felt like the greatest revenge in the World as it was truly organic and deserved.

This was  a lovely heart to heart from both of you, when I split up from my ex husband we stayed friends eventhough he was the guilty party and we still are sadly though my Son followed in his Dad's footsteps leaving a beautiful Daughter behind, yes he had problems with his ex wife but neither one of them were willing to work through their problems now myself and my second husband are the go betweeners and will continue to be until she is old enough to understand she is only 6, she was 2 when he left the family home. I was very shocked and felt like I was rerunning the fun through it all, because we used to always have team talks, as I called them, and never thought in a million years he did what he did to his wife and child knowing how it all felt. Having said all that I do blame lock down for a lot of their problems because he is a head chef in a 5 star hotel works very long hours, and when lock down hit it hit them like a sledgehammer because they had never lived in each other's pocket through their relationship therefore I think they both saw a side of each other they didn't like. But life goes on and no matter what advice we give our children their life is not in our control, just got to be there for them when it goes belly up. Thank you both for your honesty. ❤

I was lucky I didn't have children when I got divorced  - but thats another story. But I was embarrassed that I had let the whole family down. I found it extremely hard saying I was divorced. Im 50 and my parents divorced im one of 5,but as you described in an earlier podcast the one that does everything sorts it and deals with the shit.
As with yourself not going into a biography stayed to long for the kids and to keep face along with menopause and losing parents and addiction alot was not discussed or understood ,one line you and shane mentioned brought my mind back to my dad having to leave the family home we had all left years before but that was awful but i just buried it and sorted out all the shit that came with it, when my mam died was like a mother to my youngest sister sadly her  demons won and she passed 5 years ago age 36 leaving 3 kids her husband got over it 6 weeks later movrd elseswhere with another woman lol, obviousky not by accident.
So you should be so proud you and your kids are a credit to your strong irish not always best rules to follow but i get it fully tge humour and actually owning the bad decisions even though some were with good intention.
Well done your a true person your a good family and very funnyboned all of you.

I was in an abusive marriage, and I left him 3 times and went back for the kids, when he finally left me. My children are all now messed up with mental health trauma off what they saw throughout the marriage, but they are my life and I'm there for them always.

I was completely honest with my son about his dad and me ...u have to be ...hubby promised to see him but woman he was with won't let him ...why because she knew he made a big mistake and still loved me ...but bridges were burnt down by then 😢
