If you were to take a look at any “Worst Characters on Angel” list, chances are you will see Connor somewhere in the Top 5. Introduced in Season 3, Connor's character is often seen as whiney, selfish, annoying and all-around insufferable by a major portion of the fanbase. The audience was never allowed to acknowledge and absorb the true horror of being groomed, manipulated, and sexually assaulted by a supernatural force... after being groomed, manipulated, and psychologically tortured by the man who raised him.
For the sake of the twist, Connor is framed as a villain, rather than as a victim, which is cruelly ironic. The audience is gaslit about the character being gaslit.
He had so much potential as a character, and they just wasted it.
