Elena & Katherine: Inverse Mirrors

The Vampire Diaries is a show about mirrors. The series contains so many different parallels that it gets to the point where almost every character and relationship is a subversion of another and The biggest examples of this are the parallels between protagonist Elena Gilbert and her mystical, evil Doppelganger Katerina Petrova, aka Katherine Piece.

Nina dobrev’s acting was amazing, especially when the characters cam face to face

I’ve never noticed how kathrine was afraid of death and Alana wasn’t, that’s honestly kinda interesting

Kathrine is honestly the only think that keeps me watching the show. Nina doesn’t get enough credit for playing two completely different characters in one show

can we appreciate how many different roles nina played?? elena, kathrine, amora, elena with no humanity... but still very different then kathrine. Kathrine pretending to be elena.... but still different then elena. Like damn even tho elena got very irritating, nina is a great actor

When you said that stefan had been sexually asaulted by Katherine I literally had to pause the video and come to terms to the truth of it. Holy sh*t!

Actually I got the idea that Elena’s love for Stefan was selfish but in a different way to Katherine’s she loved him bc after her parents death she needed light and bc he was a vampire it was the idea he would never die and leave her broken was one of the reasons she loved him

A big difference between katherine and elena is when they were orphaned elena had friends and her brother and aunt to help her through her grief, but katherine everyone she ever loved was murdered not to mention her newborn daughter was ripped from her arms never to see her again. Katherine faced all that greif alone.

That's the magic of actress Nina. Both are completely different character, different personality. She played both roles. sometimes we can't even believe that both played by single person.

I never really considered that Kathrine raped Stefan when she turned him into a vampire. She did take away his free will so it makes sense. With this line of thinking Damon raped Caroline when he was seeing her. I think this line of thinking could be more accepted by the fanbase.

Omgggg I never thought about how Stefan appreciates that he has free will with Elena, and in turn he always respects her choices no matter what. I love Stelena so much

Elena intelligent really . Stefan never loved Kathrine he loved the fake version of her that acted like an orphan sweet angel. That’s why Stefan called her an angel because he fell in love with her fake image but when Katherine revealed her true dark self Stefan was absolutely disgusted and neede compulsion on like Damon who truly loved Katherine even when he saw her real side so ur spot on

Another smaller inverse - Katherine met and fell in love with the Salvatores when she was a vampire and they were human, and she turned them; Elena met and fell in love with the Salvatores when she was a human and they were vampires, and they (Damon) turned her. Katherine introduced the Salvatores to the supernatural and Elena was introduced to the supernatural through the Salvatores.

Season five fucked up the show and I blame the originals for this. Katherine was meant to have a redemption arc - as a human she would learn again and finally having her daughter with her BUT julie ruined it.

Anyways Katherine>>> Elena

6:10 They both fall at 1st, but in the end they both made a decision, Elena chose Damon and Katherine chose Stefan.

Yes! I loved their rivalry and dynamic. It was one of my favorite relationships on the show. Great analysis! You pointed out things I never thought of, like how Elena isn't afraid of death and I watched the series twice. And how Katharine raped Stefan. It makes the fact that they briefly got back together even worse.

@matthewmann8969 5 years ago

Katherine is the more fun one

I love that Elena’s parents’ death is the beginning of her story, while Katherine’s daughter’s death is the end of hers.

The person who had done this was incredibly accurate, plus doing a video on Klaus on why the way he is highly appreciated.

This was really good! I never understood why Stefan hated himself so much, I thought it was because he was a ripper. But it all started with katherine, then being the ripper made that so much worse for him. Then Damon on top of that... poor guy, it's good that he had Lexi. With this analysis tho, it really should have been Stefan to have a happy life. His ultimate marter/sacrife move for Damon was unnecessary. Stefan was not responsible for Damon. He was younger. He actually needed Damon more. But Damon being a pissy prick had to punish him and have the girl and kill everyone... ugh... I do like Damon, but it's clear I'm a Stefan stan😂

There’s also the biggest difference that explains every choice katherine made; she had nobody but herself to help and defend her wera as elena had everybody help her
