It's time we take a look at another place of interest in the Kanto region in a little series I'm calling...Tour of Kanto. I would say I have mostly liked all of the places I've talked about so far, but now it's time to look at a place that's...usually pretty annoying to get through. Rock Tunnel can be a chore.

In the original version, the pokemaniac is named "Kaiju mania" or maniac of kaiju. Kaiju are the giant monsters from japanese movies like godzilla.

So, rather than being pokemon fans they are kaiju fans! That's why their teams normally consist of lizard pokemon, because most kaiju (or at least the most popular ones, again, godzilla) are based on reptiles.

That's the same reason their designs for a long time were dudes in lizard fursuits who looked like they were roaring, they were roleplaying godzilla XD.

As a fun fact, all Pokemaniacs use "Monster" Pokemon.

Charizard, Slowpoke, Rhyhorn... across all games, they only use Pokemon that fall under the egg group "Monster" (Kaiju-like).
That's why the cosplays, and odd choices of Pokemon. They really like their geek mons

1:21 yeah "key memory". When this game came out my friend got stuck after Lt. Surge because she didn't know where to go afterwards. She was certain that the S.S. Anne leaving was a glitch 😂😂

Love the tour of Kanto series! Route 12 with silence bridge always stuck with me (kinda the opposite of cycling road) if you want to cover it at some point

For the record, Red is seriously brave for journeying through Rock Tunnel. When I was 9 years old playing Blue Version, I kept thinking to myself: "Man oh man, if I were in the Pokemon world, I wouldn't go into Rock Tunnel for anything, I do NOT want to run face-to-face with an Onix." And while playing Pokemon Legends Arceus, I still stand by that sentiment, especially when it comes to Steelix.

If you're playing rock tunnel on an old game boy without color, the cave is COMPLETELY dark.
That is the real challenge.

Pokedex did NOT lie. The only thing between you and losing your soul to haunter is the pokemon you throw out. You thought Oak was joking? Its dangerous alone. Old games lore went hard.

Rock Tunnel is always a fun challenge to see if you can get without losing all your Mons and starting from the Center all over again.

There is one more thing to add to Rock Tunnel in Yellow Version. If youinteract with your Pikachu in the overworld it lights up the screen for a moment so you can navigate it easier without flash.

To this very day, nearly 30 years later, I can traverse rock tunnel without flash.

Dude these videos are so entertaining, I hope you do them for the following gens once you're finished with gen 1. A breath of fresh air to 30 year old content. I straight up had no idea that Rock tunnel didn't have any items, I've never spent too much time in there to look because of all the encounters and all of the goodies of mid-game accessible as soon as you get out of that cave

This is a gauntlet dungeon and difficulty spike that tests your resource management to its screaming limit... or at least it did when I was ten. And that's... tricky. It would be easy to resent it. But I think its good to challenge kids. It felt like a real accomplishment to conquer it.
