Going to Paris to visit friends. I’m taking an older phone for taking photo and texting. Zero banking or credit card info on phone.

The best thing you can do is put a wristlet on your phone so it can’t be ripped out of your hand.

I don't use Face ID at all, because I consider that its own security risk.

@mychelelepera1178 3 months ago

Caution on the face ID thing for phone protection. In many states the police can open your phone without a warrant or your permission by using your face or eyes or thumbprint because it is considered public access. Just like they can legally take a glass or soda can you just drank from and, if disposed of in a public place, take it.

I am gradually disconnecting from the screens. No banking or credit card information on my phone. No social media memberships. No email icon. I have only two apps on my phone, both related to camping reservations. I never walk on a public street while looking at my phone. I don't take photos/videos when traveling. My phone stays in my handbag or in a zippered pocket on my coat. A lot of problems can be reduced by turning off 24/7 access and being alert to your surroundings.

You just showed us on this video exactly what to do. Keep your phone close to your chest. Avoid handling your scrolling and texting in a wide open public space. One wouldn’t open their Wallet or be counting their money in public. This is how you must treat your phone these days. Your phone doesn’t just have your money. It has your whole life that’s the way they set it up..

It's amazing how many people I see with their phones sticking out of their back pockets!

Another great addition I have on my phone is that it gets locked automatically when airplane mode gets enabled. Apple has an app called Shortcuts which you can use for this. The first thing a thief wants to do is to enable airplane mode to prevent tracking.

Stay safe out there!

This was one of your best videos ever !!there are so many parts of our phones that we have no idea exist to secure it

We lost a phone on the way to Argentina, while still in the US. We called the carrier to block the phone. We had a suspicion in was dropped in the driveway, when there is no service! For the message I asked my brother if I could use his number for someone to call to return. He agreed. Ultimately, it was left on a counter and we had to appear in person to get it reopened, which was a small price to pay for have your phone protected if he was stolen.

After this video, do this: settings > screen time > content and privacy restrictions > passcode & face id > change to don't allow
Passcode and & Face ID will disappear in the settings menu.

Love your info and knowledge, but you run through this so fast I have to constantly go back and go back all the time, slowing down would help tremendously, I’m sure a lot of people would agree. Keep up the info👍

Excellent. Top notch. Superbly helpful video. First lesson: don’t go to London, buy if you do leave your cellphone at home.

I got a new 17 Pro Max a few days ago and have checked some YT vids for this kind of advice - this is by far and away the best I have seen! Liked and subscribed, thank you! PS I live in Israel but am from London - phone theft in London is on a whole new scale, I needed this vid for my next trip

I recommend putting Messages behind Face ID too because of sms 2 factor codes

@undisgraziato 3 months ago

I don’t have a FACE ID & PASSCODE option in my settings. I don’t ever use Face ID

@jenn976 1 month ago

Reason to have banking apps on phone: to DEPOSIT checks into my bank account. That’s why.

Just EXCELLENT! One of the most useful YouTubes that I have watched in the past 5 years. Super. I’ve just set-up my iPhone prior to our Safari Trip and will recommend that my wife does the same with her iPhone. But not just for travel - for everyday security! Again, excellent and thanks so much! And getting-out my backup iPhone 7 for our trip!! 13 Aug 2026
