I think the biggest lesson here is instead of getting a new rifle every year buy one and learn how to use it

For me, this appears to be more of a proficiency test of your shooting ability with the different styles of rifles rather than a pure rifle against rifle test. I would also risk a guess and say that you might have had more recent practice with the more modern rifles which then makes this test a bit unfair to the older style smoke poles. Creating a level playing field with which to test these rifles is near impossible but you gave it a good bash. Enjoyed the video.

In my limited 50+ years of experience,  I find the older manufactured rifles to be less consistent across the models. For example  if you bought 10 early Remington 700's 3-4 of them would be great shooters. Today, we have evolved. Take Tikka, Sauer, CZ for example If you bought 10 of each' 1 or 2 out of the 30 may be a crappy shooter. We live in a golden age of firearms. CNC, CMM's giving near instant feedback to the manufacturing, modern powders, primers, and bullets with tolerances and formulations only dreamed about 40-50 years ago. As to the ergonomics, as a Fudd, I am partial to wood and blued steel. But in the woods my Tikka Embers are my go to as is the Manners near vertical grip stocked rifles. YMMV.

Looks like when you are hurrying you tend to pull your shots to the right with all the rifles. Thats interesting and something you can practice with your field position shooting. You maybe pulling the trigger to the side instead of straight back? Get someone to load single rounds for you some live and some dummy rounds and you will see it in the cross hairs if you pull the shot on the dummy round?

Good job keeping it real Tyler.  Its been my experience that gadgets often fail or get in the way. Either way practice, practice, practice with what you are going to use.

Great video my friend. I like the way to showcased the old Vs new. I have the exact same 300-H&H & 220-Swift. Except took the stock & barrel off and put them up for safe keeping. I put my 220-Swift in the GRS Hunter Nordic Wolf stock 26"SS #5-LV 5R 8-twist threaded Rock Creek barre. I want to say you are one of a few people I've seen other than family & friends and videos on YouTube of people using Hammer & McGuire Ballistics bullets. Those are some of my favorite Monolithics to hunt with next to Lehigh, Viper, Maker, Apex, Cutting-Edge, Balistix, Rhino, North-Fork, Outer Edge, SUS-TAC, PVA, Peregrine, Exc. For hunting I shoot alot of Mono's along with Partitions, A-Frames, Solid Shanks & Bonded bullets. As far as my rifle choice it depends on the terrain, weather conditions and where I'm hunting. I'm not going to take my blued rifle with a walnut stock to hunt in nasty condition. I love my traditional rifles with Sights and beautiful Wood Stocks. I use QD mounts on them so I have the option of using either or while hunting. I also really appreciate my Modern rifles, Stocks & folding Chassis Carbon Wrapped barrels, Suppressors, Exc. When I'm hunting older Mature Bucks, Elk, Moose, Bear, Exc that I've been watching for several years. It makes the hunt that much more memorable to me using my traditional rifles. What velocities are you getting with that short of a barrel on the 300-PRC ? Both of my 300-PRC's have 26" barrels. One has a 26" 8-twist Carbonsix threaded barrel and the other has 26" SS 8-twist Sendero contour threaded Rock Creek barrel. In my 300-PRC, 30-Nosler, 300-RUM-AIL & 300-NM-AI I shoot McGuire Ballistics 195gr-CR, Hammers 192gr-HBC 196gr-HH,199gr-SH, 203gr-HHT, Apex 195gr-AB, Lehigh's 195gr-CF, 194gr-ME, Makers 190gr-HVTE, 190gr-HVF & Outer Edge 195gr-BBT.

Classic style hunting rifles thear is multiple reasons i bought weatherby vanguard  Classic hunting rifle design was one the reasons though i do appreciate the modern features on it like adjustable triggers and modern butt plates plus a few other things  point is classic rifle designs can be made modern

My takeaway is that you’re a tough bastard shooting those big calibers with metal butt plates!! I’m definitely going prone off the pack if I don’t have a bipod. The suppressor alone is worth the trade offs

Don’t forget the titanium rib cage!

I think having both is the best option,  I have a few higher end rifles in modern chamberings with suppressors that are light and a joy to shoot.   In the last few years I've acquired a couple Sako Finnbear Deluxes in 270 and 300 Win along with a Ruger M77 mark ii in 338 Win Mag that are now my most used rifles for elk and deer. The old ones definitely shoot as well or better  as a newer custom, but I spend much more time worrying about the finish on those wood stocks. For pure hunting situations the carbon fiber and cerakote handle the elements better and I refuse to thread 50 year old Sako barrels so I really miss the suppressors on those.

I will stick with my 1953 Winchester Pre 64 .308. Old world craftsmanship, impeccable deep blueing, iron sights, cone breech, simple reliable trigger system, action that runs like a sewing machine and timeless design in a classic cartridge.

You should have used a coffee can size target,.

Classics for me. I spot and stalk in the timber and seldom shoot 300+yds. All rifles deserve a good trigger, especially when shooting off hand. If a guy put the time, energy, and money into these older rifles, they could probably hang  with the new school.

On the first sequence you were over the top of almost every target. If you're zeroed at 100 or 200 yards your maximum ordinate is going to be between the gun and the target and at 45-75 yards so you should hold a bit low.

CLASSIC RIFLES.......Hands Down,  I have a Pre 64 Winchester  .243 & it's a Shooter

I only have a 25 year old rifle,  haven't hunted or inherited anything older.  Only once did I shoot a deer offhand. because he walked up on me at about 30 yards.  I suck offhand.  I enjoy the videos you guys make.

I bet that 300h&h produces better velocity than the prc with a 20” barrel

I like to watch hunting and fishing and stuff, but you gotta shoot the same caliber against each other. In every gun is different but you shoot the same gun against each other same caliber for every test. I get a kick out of we switch around guns. With that second one the 220 Swift, you could tell by looking at it what was gonna happen?

What i learned,  go get that Proof research carbon fiber barrel,  fancy bipod, carbonfiber stock, 2k scope and hand loaded ammo. Then still get minute of paper plate.

I have yet to find a rifle that would replace my M 70 Featherwieght or my M 94 AE for big game hunting
