I do like that the Maisto model has the black molding around the car and the black lip as the original car.  The other models don’t have it.

Maisto has nailed the value proposition for the 1/18 scale, imo. Beatiful model, especially for the price!

Thanks for the review!

It's an amazing value-for-money model.

The bburago one is biased off the prototype. Which is why it’s so different like the door insides the engine cover glass the five finns on the side instead of four and so on. And that makes it very cool and unique. Search for videos off the prototypes. You’ll see what i mean

Mustang GTD and F40 in the same year? Nice!

Just ordered one off eBay UK, £35 including postage. You could paint that black, spare wheel with a silver pen, to make it stand out a little bit more. I'll look at doing that.

I improved my one by chroming the rims and leaving the centres silver, makes such a difference. The original car has silver faces and polished rims. I also painted the fake spare tyre under the front hood.

Sweet models, I have that Burago one somewhere I believe, it’s one I’ve had since the mid 90’s

You know.. this looks great!! I wish they'd do a revised Enzo. It is really freaking cool to see them bringing some of their older models back. It's sick!!!

These things are selling for 80 dollars in europe it's crazy. Hopefully we'll get them at retail price in the next few months. It's great that maisto re-released it with several improvements, like the black pinstriping and rear grille mesh although the bburago did have the better engine. I had to put a lot of work into my bburago F40 to make it look good. To answer your question, the bburago version is the prototype and not the production car, so it has the F40 on the driver's side, and more louvres on the rear overhang and the rear canopy than on the maisto modeled after the production version.

I have the old maisto one from the 2000s also in 1/18 scale

I just got one today. I felt that I got lucky because 10 minutes after I got it, I saw 3 guys looking through the maisto cars and I already know what they were looking for😅

Thanks for showing us. Would love to see Maisto re-issue the old Burago Lamborghini Countach in 1/18.

Thanks for the comparison. I picked up the Maisto F40 from Costco a little while ago. The price was great for the overall look and quality of the model. I suppose if I really wanted to, I might be able to go in and paint out some of the details inside. But, since this is mostly going to be a display that will be admired from the exterior 99% of the time, I don't think that will be necessary.

It’s no secret in the die-cast community that the Hot Wheels F40 is actually based on the earlier Bburago casting. Hot Wheels reused several older Bburago Ferrari castings, as well as tooling from other manufacturers—such as the F355, which was based on the UT Models casting. Bburago also later released a made in China version that had a few of the hotwheels detail updates.

Some Hot Wheels versions received only minor changes to keep production costs down, which explains why the F40s are so similar. The original Bburago was based on the pre-production F40, so details like the rear-wing logo and number of vents in the rear glass weren’t accurate to the production car. Hot Wheels later corrected these details.

Hot Wheels also reused Bburago castings for the Testarossa, 288gto, 348, 360, 250 GTO, F50, 456 GT, and several other older Ferraris. The HW Elite version is just a more detailed version of the casting.

There is a up detail or trans-kit available if your into molding 1/18s. This kit brings the Bb to kyosho levels of detail. It consists of photo etched parts and carbon Kevlar look decals ect. The tremonia trans kit can be used on either Bburago or any of the HW versions. Id like to try it on this new maisto though.

And if you want to see a odd 1/18 f40 the Tonka-polistil f40 is worth a google.

Awesome. My favorite ferrari model.

Definitely better than the last version from 2015 but yk what you say old is gold but his new paint job and interior on the new one cannot be beaten

also the bburago version lends itself to become a good modding platform for those with the skills to do so. I've seen someone on the DiecastXchange forums take a bburago F40 and paint the engine components so theres more separation of the parts compared to it all just being chrome while also adding things like wires and hoses where they could. The end result was very impressive.

Actually the outside ring of the wheels is polished very much and looks almost like chrome, yes the star is not shiny. But Hot Wheels matched the thing the best

Dream. Masterpiece forever
