Changing a single value in Gen 1 leads to 300 MissingNo.'s

tbf we had 22 years to develop tools for Ruby and Sapphire, and 1.5 years to develop tools for Teal Mask.

Pokemon BDSP becoming the best modern pokémon game to rom hack but being the worst to actually play without mods is wild, and I'm here for it when it becomes the Emerald/FireRed of modern pokémon rom hack

The day the gen 5 engine gets as good as the gen 3 engine when it comes to hacks, is the day I’m waiting for

You know props for actually following through and making edits and not just summarizing what tools exist without trying

Meanwhile Fire Emblem 8 romhacking has an all in one tool with no need for coding knowledge to make a completely original campaign

looks at pokemon brown "KOOLBOYMAN MADE THIS IN A CAVE, WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS"

Still haven't seen a fully functional Yellow hack that allowed you to evolve the partner Pikachu but kept the interaction system you had with it, intact.

Very cool. It's nice to see some light being shed on the less popular generations to rom hack.

I will continue to dream of an Emerald remake in Gen 5's engine

I think it literally comes down to the DS games being rough to emulate/play on pc because of the touch screen and Gen 3 being the newest Gen before that

You mentioned possibly covering spin offs. I just wanted to say Pokemon Mystery Dungeon has an amazing modding scene! Explorers of Sky is probably one of the easiest games to mod out there, possibly having a lower barrier to entry than even gen 3. Then there's Rescue Team DX, what I mostly mod, that was made in Unity and while possible to do a ton with including custom cutscenes, maps, pokemon, and more doesn't have the largest modding scene. We even got a prototype Explorers DX put together before it got cancelled. Biggest issue with RTDX is the smaller modding community and lack of easy resources for learning it. Then there's Super Mystery Dungeon and Gates to Infinity. It's possible to do cutscene edits in both and custom models are possible with Super Mystery Dungeon. In theory everything is there to add custom pokemon but nobodies done it for Super and I've had trouble figuring out custom animations for it along with the hex editing needed for movesets since there's not a UI for that like there is for EOS and RTDX. Also I just wanted to ramble about PMD modding.

so happy to have this on my feed because I didn't even know there were modding capabilities outside of Gen 3 & 8, also latvia had a banger eurovision song this year so congrats on earning my sub

Moral of the story hack gen three.

11:07 dude, I got jumpscared and thought that I was somehow in a call and forgot I was in it. 😭

The Emerald style character you use in your videos is so cute :D
Lovely how expressive one can still be with so few pixels!

Good to see people talking good about Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Also, nice TyranitarTube reference to his Alola nuzlocke series.

Bro that's one of the best thumbnails for a topic like this

So Nostalgic, brings up old memory of 2009 when I was trying to make Pokemon Rom hack. Spend too much time and it was fun to learn so much.

last year i set up the entire pokeemerald decomp just to edit 1 sprite for a meme 😭
