The 2026 snow season in Australia has objectively been, by many measures, the worst ever. Lower elevations saw their lowest snow depths by far, temperatures reached record highs, and the end of the season reached zero faster than ever before. Yet how did this year end up so horrific for snowfall? And what can be done to salvage the experience, the community and the Australian snow sports industry so that skiing in Australia can continue for many good and bad years to come?
