The medical frigate leaves Geonosis with Anakin strapped to a table in the forward bay. Obi-Wan leans against the bulkhead with his own wounds packed and ignored, watching the medical droids work. They cut away the top of Anakin's Jedi tunic, revealing what remains of his right arm: a stump that ends a few inches above the elbow, flesh and bone cauterized black by the lightsaber that cut it off. Anakin is barely conscious, and through blurry eyes, he sees the medical droids have frozen his dismembered right arm and placed it nearby in a holding chamber. By the time they reach Coruscant, the Temple healers have already prepared a prosthetic socket. Vokara Che stops them before they fit it.
[FOR EDITORS: Vokara Che, Chief Healer of the Jedi Temple's Halls of Healing, a female Twi'lek. She appears only in Star Wars novels, never in the films and never in The Clone Wars, so there is NO screen footage of her anywhere and any still will have to come from artwork. She is the second lead of this script and speaks throughout, so she needs a settled look before the edit starts.]
Vokara Che: Leave the socket. I want to try something first.
Anakin (dazed): What… what do you mean, try?
Vokara Che: Force-assisted regeneration. It has been attempted several times in the last four centuries. Most attempts produced nothing. But some… produced tissue that grew for several weeks and then stopped. Now, enough. I am going to place you in a healing trance, lay ba-
Anakin (shocked): No, wait! You mean you can grow my arm back?
Vokara Che: I said it might grow back. And even then, there is no guarantee that you'll be able to move your regenerated limb, in which case you may be left with a partial arm that serves no purpose.
Anakin: Then let me be the one who proves it can be done.
Vokara Che: Anakin, you're remarkably determined. But I should warn you this isn't a procedure we can simply reverse if something goes wrong.
Anakin: Neither was fighting Dooku. But, just like him, I'm not giving up on my arm without a fight.
She holds his eyes for a moment longer, then tells the medical droids to take the socket away. Vokara Che works with two other healers holding the Force steady around the shoulder while she guides its energy toward the ruined tissue, and focuses it and imbues it into the stump. The dead flesh at the edge softens and falls away as new cells begin to form. After a few hours, a length of bone has formed beyond the end of the stump. Just as Anakin tries to move it, she stops him.
Vokara Che: Don't try to move it yet, Anakin. The growth is fragile.
Anakin: I can't even feel it, let alone move it. What's happening?
Vokara Che: Your own connection to the Force is helping it grow. But if you push it too soon, you'll destroy the new tissue. It may still be weeks or maybe months before it's fully grown back.
Anakin: Months? Master, that's… that's too long. We're fighting a war out there, I need to-
Vokara Che: What you need to do is rest. Now, lay back and this time, no arguing with me about a healing trance.
Anakin keeps looking at his half-grown arm, exposed flesh and bone protruding out from his elbow. Vokara Che lays him back and guides him through breathing exercises, and before the sun comes up, Anakin is fast asleep. Vokara Che begins writing notes on the procedure, trying to remember every detail of the regrowth, the Force attunement and how Anakin's own deep connection to the Force aided in the process. She is in the middle of documenting everything when she receives a summons to the High Council, who have already heard of the procedure she performed and do not seem pleased.
Mace: What you did was reckless, Vokara. You didn't even ask the Council's permission before performing a treatment like this.
Vokara Che: There wasn't time, Master Windu. Anakin needed help, and this is an ancient healing method preserved in the oldest records this Temple keeps. I knew it could work..
