Vibrant and colorful (coulorful) macro shots. Keep doing macro. Really enjoy them.

Great imagesRalph, thanks .

Thank you Ralph, for this entertaining, informative glimpse into macro! Congratulations on the wonderful images. Hope you purchased the lens! Recently purchased the Sony 70-200 f4  G macro lens. Opened up the world around me to new photo challenges. Hope you are well

The video was very informative Ralph and the wasp in  between the grass was a great capture. The second part there was a lot of quality shots but it is an expensive lens for the time you may use it. 🙏

Did very well with the Macro shots Ralph, I used to enjoy taking Macro shots! Liked the wasp capture! Many thanks for sharing your work - have a great week! :hand-pink-waving:

Hi Ralph, another great video, I can understand your frustrations and joy with macro. In the UK I have been shooting macro with my a6500 with and without flash using manual focus and a monopod to be able to lean in and out repeatable to nail focus. I'm on my way to Torreveija today with my new e-m1 Mark ii and the 60mm macro hoping to benefit from back button focus using auto focus, then lean in and out using focus peaking before shooting stacked/bracketed images (something my a6500 couldn't do)

Great images second time around Ralph, I've just switched to the OM-1 MKII from the Nikon Z9 and a macro lens is on the list, I have the 45mm macro but not sure that's enough power to really give macro a chance? Enjoyed the video mate, take care, Steve.

A really good introduction video on macro photography Ralph. It looks a great lens but a lens that you would need to use regularly if you were to part with a £1,000 to buy one. I always shoot in manual focus especially for insect photography,  that way you know what's in focus. As you are possibly finding out it is a big learning curve (but enjoyable when you get it right) getting into macro. I hope you stick with it even if you use your 100-400mm lens. Have a great week and stay safe.

Great video, Ralph! You got some beautiful macro shots I hope that you buy the lens. I would love to see more macro shots from you.
See you on the next one. Cheers!

I just got that lens and I struggle with it but will keep going

I enjoyed the photos. And to my American friends, happy 250th Independence Day.

Great video Ralph and a great channel (just subscribed)! Please know what i say here i mean with the gretest of respect and mean no offence and hopefully not coming across as teaching a fish how to swim as im fairly new to your channel. Just a little few suggesions/ideas from a fellow newcomer to the macro world who has just upgraded from the 60mm to this 90mm behemoth.

You probably chose the hardest subject (insects) to try for your first outing with that lens. I decided early on that insects were not for me as i have nerve damage in my legs and use a mobility scooter so cant get close without scaring them so i shoot static subjects like fungi, lichens, textures, moss, tree bark, flowers and abstract to name a few as they dont run away and move in the frame. Since it doesnt rain that often where you are you could maybe grab a little spray/mist bottle to apply water drops to subjects, thats what i do back here in the UK if all else fails.

Check out Lee Hall's Youtube channel for some cracking indoor macro ideas and Stewart Wood for outdoor and indoor macro stuff, the guys are amazing.

I know someone who did macro with insects. He ended up having to kill and mount them in order to do focus stacking. I do have a macro lens with my old Olympus Evolt. I discovered I didn't use it that much. Depth of field is really shallow and unless I did inanimate objects where I could focus stack I really didn't like the results. When I got a chance to get another lens for my Nikon I went the other way and got a super telephoto to do wildlife. I've been more pleased with that. I suppose it all depends on what you like to do. Thanks for sharing!!!

The 60mm is a no-brainer for macro and only $500. I just got the 90mm and am looking to use the focus stacking with AK Diffuser and Godox V480o flash

The wasp was my favourite. It is tricky doing macro in Spain on a dry day. It is worth going to el hondo early when it is damp the night before. The 90mm is superb, even for portrait. The stacking and bracketing on the OM1 really help. The main thing with the 90 though is to use the range settings on the side of it will struggle to focus. Do t forget if you want to but it contact an ambassador and they can send you a discount code.

That was really interesting Ralph, and I must say so that wasp image looked fabulous, but yes it's a learning and patients game, I've been practising more indoors and playing with the focus bracketing side, but as with everything in photography, practise, practise, get it wrong to get it right, but it is a superb lens. Have a great week and see you next Saturday

What part of the world do you live?

Focus stacking/bracketing is almost essential for close macro, plus handheld is not the option that it is with most other OM photography. Using the 1.4x and 2x TC with the 90mm  is a real challenge.
