Thank you very much!!

Always specify HSN and TSN when ordering parts!!!!

After 245,000 km, the body of our T5 Multivan (BNZ engine/automatic) is shaking considerably, especially when starting off. I suspect the four engine mounts are the culprit, as the vibrations are felt only in the body and not, for example, in the steering or when braking. Since the mounts are now old and have high mileage, the engine vibrations are no longer properly dampened and are thus transmitted to the body. So I'm trying to replace them myself and have sourced replacement parts from the original equipment manufacturer, Lemförder. This wasn't so easy online, as there seem to be supply and production issues. I was only able to find three mounts online: the engine mount for the front torque strut, the hydraulic mount, and the mount for the rear torque strut. I could only get the transmission mount through my VW dealer.

Of course, there are other manufacturers, but Lemförder or original parts from the authorized dealer are probably the best. I ran into problems right away with the front mount, as the long bolt connecting the torque strut and mount couldn't be loosened due to lack of space. So I had to remove the inner fender liner, the parking sensors (bull bar), and a horn to be able to use the impact wrench. It's definitely worth investing in a decent impact wrench with high torque for this, whether it's battery-powered or pneumatic.

That one bearing took me the first day. Luckily, the other three went much faster, thanks in no small part to my buddy Danny. The transmission mount and the hydraulic mount can also be replaced relatively easily and quickly on your own. I'd estimate a maximum of 1.5 hours per mount. The rear mount, specifically the rear torque mount, is probably the most difficult to loosen and tighten alone, especially the upper bolt (mount to mount). We opted for the proverbial solution of working through the engine compartment from above. With three 1/2-inch extensions, a universal joint, and a 16mm socket, it was no problem for two people. On my own, as mentioned in the video, I would have tried it with a 16mm offset ring spanner or the VAG special tool. When removing the bearing, be careful not to damage the power steering line. The second part was also done in just over an hour.

Everything is absolutely doable, even for a hobby mechanic, and it's amazing how smoothly the car runs now.

Thanks for your interest in my videos!
