Issac: "Wow, that Doctor Kyne is crazy. Right, Nicole?"

Kendra: "Umm...."

To think kendra managed to gaslight the marker so well that only at the last moment the marker thought "oh fuck fuck fuck fuck" and then made isaac recall the ship

This makes me want a survival horror game where you actually play as the spy character the whole time. That could be really interesting and cool to explore.

To be fair, if Kendra succeeded and delivered the Marker with her sanity intact, the Earth Gov facility would just end up like the Space Station from Dead Space 2

It's interesting how OG Kendra was a mustache-twirling asshat with little in the way of redeeming qualities whereas new Kendra is portrayed as much more sympathetic and with motives. Now, she agrees with the orders she was given and actually sees what she does as the right course of action. It definitely works since I don't giggle at her death in the remake compared to the original.

The “betrayal” after chapter 10 didn’t even feel like a betrayal in the remake and I mean that in the best way possible. The way Kendra called Isaac “a hell of an engineer” felt genuine, too, as if she really believed he’d find a way off the Ishimura one way or another.

Kendra was in an impossible situation. She could only truly rely on herself and the fates of countless people were dependent on her. Yes, she lied and manipulated to achieve her goal, but given the context, she can't really be blamed.

Isaac put it quite well good men mean well. They just don't always do well.

I’m wondering if Kendra made up the story about seeing her brother. Everyone else’s experience with the marker was interactive while hers was observation only. Maybe she made a quick story to deepen the trust with Isaac.

I like this Kendra. Her change in character tone from the original was really good.

Definitely prefer new Kendra over old. New Kendra truly seems like a woman in an impossible situation just trying to do what she thinks is best. When she reveals to Isaac and Elizabeth what happened she sounds frustrated but sympathetic. Old Kendra sounded like she was gloating and taking joy in Isaac's distress.

Kendra death was grueling. Even Issac was mad and just tired. He couldn’t hate her and it all he had left at that point was just pure revenge and to destroy the hive mind. Glad they got Issac voice actor back because I thought him being a silent protagonist was a waste especially in his own journal logs you read in the original

The most unbelievable thing is someone would be willing to take on this suicide mission.
If Kendra knew about what this Marker could do, and the Ishimura had gone dark...then she should have known what was happening on that ship. And she would have known it would have been certain death stepping foot on that ship.

Kendra was absolutely doing the right thing in the remake. The remake makes it clear that the reason the Marker was manipulating Isaac into placing it on the pedestal was to implant the self-replicating signal that Isaac suffers from throughout Dead Space 2. It was essentially using Isaac (and Cross) to be its puppets and build more Markers elsewhere with the mental blueprints.

Kendra killing Cross was honestly the right thing to do at that point - like she said, Cross and Isaac would never recover from what the Marker did to them. Either one of them surviving and escaping would just mean they would eventually spread the Marker infection elsewhere.

I noticed that people who are resistant to the Marker’s influence (Not immune like some characters in the series as a whole), are also people who have had the time to grieve and accept the very loved ones they lost to an untimely death, the same loved ones the marker uses to manipulate people. I think in addition to this, and having some prior knowledge of how the marker works or what it can do, makes it easier for a person’s mind to realize it’s being manipulated and what its being shown is NOT real.

Granted, this is a RESISTANCE, as we have seen in Dead Space 3, a strong enough force can override that resistance and make you succumb to Marker Insanity.

So the thing with the Dead Space 2 ending is Isaac fighting the Markers control over him in his mind. The last part of a markers life cycle before true convergence, is to consume the creator of the marker (or another that imprints as hard as someone like Isaac did) The ending of Dead Space 2 is just that, you're playing the internal fight. You're literally doing therapy basically.... with plasma cutters and pulse rifles

If nothing else, the remake shows us one important counter to the Marker through the way Kendra conducts her plans, despite also being under its influence.

She kept her plans entirely to herself, and the Marker seemingly never suspected her, else it would have had the others stop her sooner, it merely infected her mind the same way as everyone else, only, her prior knowledge of her brother's death confirms it's the Marker's doing. So, theoretically, if you wish to trick a Marker, you need to keep things ENTIRELY to yourself, which certainly limits your capabilities.

It also probably means whilst Markers can influence human thoughts, it cannot directly see them. Perhaps at close proximity, this all changes, as all of its influence gets amplified massively, but being able to remain undetected from it for so long implies that Kendra found a blind spot in the Marker's influence and control, which is a really neat detail. It practically forces you to work alone though.

@deltahalo241 2 years ago

I think Kendra probably meant well but I don't think she was right. We know from Dead Space 2 that EarthGov were more concerned with restarting the Marker program, I think in the end she was just a pawn being used, deceived into thinking she was saving everyone. It didn't matter in the end though, EarthGov were still able to get what they wanted from Isaac, Stross and the other Key Subject's heads.

@gambitmoristead8047 1 year ago

Whats actually terrifying is he goes full Dr. Kyne in the alternate ending if you get all the remnant markers in NG+. You get in the escape shuttle...and he is legit having a full on talk with 'Nicole'. Camera pans around and "she's there". The terrifying part is he SHOULD know it's not her after Kendra's act, but he says to 'nicole' "I have a surprise for you" Nicole: oh really what is it? "I have to build it first." Camera reverses away from the pilot seats to show Marker sigils and writing all on the floor of the cabin in the shuttle. Issac has gone full on insane and marker-puppet now.

Remake Kendra already gone through the four stages of grief makes sense in explaining why she doesn't seem heavily affected by the Marker influence.
Her brother probably died a long time ago and her already moved on from it. Makes you think if her department choose her because of that or is that just a coincidence.

I wish 2 and 3 would get this remake treatment.. I played the remake last weekend and it was a blast.

@subwoofer6726 3 years ago

The original made Kendra self serving and manipulative. By the end, no one really felt bad for her because she was kind of deserving.

The remake however completely changes her tone; and I fully agree. She was trying to save everyone for the greater good because objectively everyone was unconsciously under the markers influence. While she on the other hand was fully aware that the marker was actively trying to warp her mind. Any attempts to sway Issac would have been worthless because we all know Issac had no understanding of how the Marker worked and thus, he was completely under it's influence.
