Billy slater nailed it when he described why it keeps happening

Feel bad for Phoenix in the middle of all this, he's a good humble bloke

The question we should be asking is what leads to player fatigue? Defending consecutive sets because of ruck infringement 6 agains would be the leading cause in my opinion.

If the boot had been on the other foot and Nathan had done the tackle it would have been a sin bin at worst.

It’s truly mind boggling that the Penrith Staff allowed Nathan Cleary to play with a broken right foot 😮! I mean seriously where does ‘duty of care’ come into the equation?

To the morons posting 'death threats' towards Phoenix, it's about time you grew up! You poor, simple fools!!

Praying for you Nathan, all is gonna be well.

I cant believe it, but I agree with Gus.

Cleary should never have played. When are clubs going to put players health above money?

Great clip. Most level headed nuetral discussion i seen yet

No sin bin. Too much emotion just cuz it was Cleary. Sad but too emotional.

It's a brutal sport and serious injuries happen, it won't be the last one either. Grt on with it? Like Nathan has

It was an accident y did not deserve a sent off. 10 minutes maybe...but wasn't a send off, no way in the nworld.

It happens because they are coached to not tackle around the legs. If you hit at the waist and slide down the legs 90% of the time it ends up with the attacking player getting up to play the ball before the defender. So that has been coached out of the game. Until there is a way to reward a legs tackle with a slower play the ball this will keep happening. Hip drops occur because if the defender finds themselves around the waist, they hang on and avoid sliding down the legs. They want to try to maintain a position where they can get up before the attacking player ideally with the attacking player on his back. The game does not reward legs tackles they are coached out of the game.

Watch the nrl come down hard next year on hip drops. Like insanely hard.

Simple answer; no. He was sent off because of what team it was and which player it was. At best it was a sin-bin.

i think a send off appropriate after breaking a foot. Nathan being on the field was a really stupid idea.

No excuses here. New Castle were down 12 men.  Is Nathan the only person panthers had? Accept defeat.  There shouldn't be a sent off. New Castle to win grand final.

Was it as bad as victor Radley's? He seems to be still playing gf..

Bring back the older style jumpers. This would give players something to grab as it was for 100 years before. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO HAVE SKIN TIGHT JUMPERS.
