I watched that SB on TV back then, and watching the highlights now gives me goosebumps. I loved the Raiders for years and just wanted them to crush the Redskins. Marcus Allen's run was incredible. The defense had their hands on him and were so close to making the tackle. That play to this day makes my heart pound. 🙂
After 20 years of being the most successful team in sports, what's happened in the 30+years since then? They've been one of the worst teams that can't seem to get it together. They've been to one Super Bowl since then, a 2-3 year period that they were relevant and that's it! Maybe a few seasons here and there where they almost made the playoffs. IT'S SAD!!!
That year’s Packers offense was so creative and explosive, often unstoppable. If they even had just an average defense, they probably would have made the Super Bowl. And with Lofton and Jefferson against Hayes and Haynes, they would have had a much better chance than Washington in that Super Bowl, and very realistically could have beaten the Raiders.
But that year, UW-Green Bay’s club football team had a better defense.
