Greatest thing about GIR to me is that: while The Tall Ones tried to make the most inefficient robot ever, they actually weirdly created an extremely intelligent AGI. The SIR robots are normally supposed to be extremely subservient machines, but GIR is incredibly self-aware, and his playfulness indicates complex intelligence. Like, sure, he may be a doofus, but instead of following direct orders, he’s aware enough to understand his own wants.
This is essentially the difference between AI and AGI. An AI will basically be programmed for and achieve specific tasks. Like, it can certainly do A LOT, but it’s still limited to its programming.
Whereas, an AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) has the ability to learn beyond its own programming. It works like an actual human mind. It can find personal interests, have emotions, understand morality, and choose what it wants to learn.
So basically, putting pennies, paper clips and bubble-gum into a scrap robot is the most high-tech you can get 🤣
Though Rikki is Jhonen’s friend voicing GIR, tacos and pigs and the word doom and even dogs are Jhonen’s obsessions. It’s funnier because Rikki is Jhonen’s friend, so like, imagine that.
