While reality of the 1930s was very stressful, Hollywood became the fantasy escape the nation needed. Hollywood was glamorous and maximalist, proving that when money disappears, spectacle becomes the new currency. I examine the fascination of elegance in the 1930s, how Hollywood became the new trendsetter, and specific 1930s fashion trends.
